Levy's Plan

It was made by Pique’s production company and he wanted to show the process a footballer goes through with the toughest decision of their lives. At least that’s what Pique said.

I don’t find it that cringey to be honest. I’d love it if Dele filmed a TV episode to announce he’s turning down Madrid after they turn up the media pressure on us all summer. It would be hilarious.

Plus, when Lebron did it, all of the ad revenue they generated he gave to charity. Maybe Griezmann is doing similar.
 
Players have turned down moves to the big clubs plenty of times, to turn it into some big event was cringeworthy to me and if Dele did that I’d find it a bit tacky. We operate in a classy way off the field....

Good piece especially true about the MON years under Learner ( copied below), i wish i had a pound for every moaning Spurs supporter who said they wished we had a chairman who was willing to buy players on a whim. And now look at them


Randy Lerner seemed the perfect antidote to Deadly Doug and initially bankrolled Martin O’Neill’s tenure which ultimately failed in its bid to crack the top 4 and more importantly, was the very beginning for our monetary problems
 
Villa certainly were in a position to kick on in 2008. Had a good team with a blend of youth and experience. Young, Barry, Milner, Friedel, Petrov, Heskey, Carew, Gardner, Cuellar, Agbonlahor. Decent team that wasn't far off 4th irc.

Its really quite refreshing to see an "other fan" piece that isnt littered with bitter digs at us.

And I agree with him, Ive long held the view that us, Villa, Everton, City (pre money) and even West Ham were well placed to do exactly what we have done.

And since we have been on this path, Im frankly amazed none of these clubs have followed what we do (except City, obviously).

Ive a soft spot for Villa, always liked them as a kid and one of my best mates is a fan, so Ive always kept an eye. They have at times come close to consolidating a good base to build from, and then somehow just messed it up. Poor decisions at the top, managerial appointments, and player recruitment undo them each time.

FFS they hired Timmeh!

I think the best thing they can do is plan to start from scratch. Accept they will be in the Championship for a few years, and just build things up.

They are a giant at that level, despite their current financial woes that will pay off in time.

They have a good academy, and a very good set up at that level. And in Bruce a very good championship manager.

They really should take the time to have a clear out, focus on developing players, building a team and squad, and working their way up patiently.

No short cuts.

They were in a good position.

Any team with Barry, Milner, Heskey and Agbonlahor are in for a bricky ride though.

A team they couldn't afford and they are still paying the price for today. Besides, 5th back then was the same as 7th now after our rise and City's oil money.
They could have kicked on if a better (richer) owner had come in. Or if they had qualified for Champions League, though for all their pushing Everton for 5th, they were still a way off 4th.
It was a false dawn, papered over poor financial management. Was always going to collapse.
No doubt good times for Villa fans, but they were never headed into the same direction as we've gone. I'm not even sure it could be possible without London location.

Let's face it, Levy is waiting for deadline day isn't he. He loves the drama, the thrill of doing big deals so late with time against you. Managers and fans live in hope that one day he will change, but I don't think he ever will.

My prediction is that on deadline day Toby will join Utd for 50 mill, we will then use that money to sign DeLigt, and with minutes to spare a 65 mill deal to sign Zaha will go through. Levy fully in the spotlight and considered deadline day drama king once again.

Get with the programme, pace is the answer to all our Ills, if we could just get Bolt we would win the league.

It's a very plausible prediction because it suggests that nothing will be done about CM, and no-one will really notice that our weakest area has been ignored.
