And it works both ways too. Just a general observation, not directed at you.
I completely accept that. The debate is polarized in unhelpful ways.

What I really do not get is the first statement and I have heard it so so much. Why after finishes of 4th, 5th, 4th are we now in a transitional season?????
With a good young squad and a good recent record we should be looking to build and move forward, why transition??
OK Modric wanted to leave and VDV was "homesick" so surely any club with ambition would look to replace those two players with guarenteed quality to retain the clubs recent standing in the league and fulfill not only the fans but the clubs ambitions???? Not only that I would I argue on the playing front that after another 4th finish, should we should not have just been looking to replace like for like but ADD to the squad and push on.
We have gone from a club that pushed the top teams and thrilled for most of the season last year to a club in transition?? I just really do not get it on ounce I truly do not.
There is and was no need for it, we have gone backwards for what reasons??

Revisionism rules where Harry Redknapp is concerned. Tragically part of this revisionism entails bestowing tactical genuis upon AVB (completely unproved) as a convenient contrast with Harry's naive simplistic tactical approach (more nonsense). Amazing what some can see to convince themselves all is fine.
We were challenging for the title in January FFS! No matter how much people despise Redknapp, he was and is a great manager and we've replaced him with a bloke who's unproven in this country and had a genuine world class striker at Porto who made him look good.
Replacing Harry with Ancellotti would have made perfect sense because he would be an obvious upgrade.
This isn't knee jerk btw. I've said this many times in the feeling flat thread.

Indeed! Redknapp wasnt liked but he got results. He spoke to much to the media but he backed it up with form and attractive football.
Be careful what you wish for...
Also want to say, why are people still talking like Ancwlotti is an obvious upgrade? Have you seen PSG? They have shown he doesn't guarentee success, and he even has sugar daddy money!
King retiring, Modric forcing a move, Brad being old (good for this season, IMO, but succession planning required), Adebayor, Nelsen and Saha all gone. A ton of ballast weighing down the squad that HARRY set out in the cold.
With or without a new manager (and direction) I believe, and have done consistently, this season was always going to be transitional.
Redknapp left the squad at the end of the season in such condition it was unavoidable, IMHO. This is not me picking sides, this is not me digging at Harry - this is a plain observation.
Rubbish. People keep building up these pantomime villain type parodies of posters opinions, and even worse group a whole bunch of people as such - its ridiculous.
Harry wasnt an especially tactical manager. AVB not winning (but not losing!) doesnt change that.
AVB is a more tactical manager, in that he has an over riding system of play he believes will be successful - time will tell on that one. Given that it is a lot more organised and requires 16 people learn it, take it on board and buy into it how about giving the man time before trying to stir up yet more Harry vs AVB board splitting arguments?
The problem with writing off a season is retaining players at the end of it, and attracting new players. If we finish 10th we haven't a chance of getting decent players in.
Not consistently he didnt. Revisionism goes both ways. Was it 4 wins in our last 15? And we have played plenty of directionless, heartless games under Redknapp as well - it wasnt all champagne football was it?

But a summer clear out was still achieved, we got rid of the deadwood pretty easily to be honest. Ok Modric and VDV was talent we did not want to lose but as I say we could have and should have replaced like for like.
I would argue that 33million from Real for Modric is 33million we didnt have before to miss so why not invest it??
We could argue over pounds and pence but the failures in the league and the performance this season could be just as financially costly as scrimping over the odd million here and there on a transfer fee...
