Rubbish. People keep building up these pantomime villain type parodies of posters opinions, and even worse group a whole bunch of people as such - its ridiculous.

Harry wasnt an especially tactical manager. AVB not winning (but not losing!) doesnt change that.

AVB is a more tactical manager, in that he has an over riding system of play he believes will be successful - time will tell on that one. Given that it is a lot more organised and requires 16 people learn it, take it on board and buy into it how about giving the man time before trying to stir up yet more Harry vs AVB board splitting arguments?

Indeed! Redknapp wasnt liked but he got results. He spoke to much to the media but he backed it up with form and attractive football.

Tenth will be a massive failure. We should still aim for top 6 IMO.

We have to give AVB time. We have to give him games where he is able to start the players he has signed. But I must say, it was weird there today. We were so bad, it is clear something is not right.

King retiring, Modric forcing a move, Brad being old (good for this season, IMO, but succession planning required), Adebayor, Nelsen and Saha all gone. A ton of ballast weighing down the squad that HARRY set out in the cold.

With or without a new manager (and direction) I believe, and have done consistently, this season was always going to be transitional.

Redknapp left the squad at the end of the season in such condition it was unavoidable, IMHO. This is not me picking sides, this is not me digging at Harry - this is a plain observation.
 
Also want to say, why are people still talking like Ancwlotti is an obvious upgrade? Have you seen PSG? They have shown he doesn't guarentee success, and he even has sugar daddy money!
 
I'm actually flabbergasted that someone would openly admit that they're 'expecting' 10th place as if it's okay. That would be a disaster, leading to many players wanting to move on (Bale being the prime example). Which is why this whole 'transitional season' gonads tinkles me off so much.

Not consistently he didnt. Revisionism goes both ways. Was it 4 wins in our last 15? And we have played plenty of directionless, heartless games under Redknapp as well - it wasnt all champagne football was it?

But a summer clear out was still achieved, we got rid of the deadwood pretty easily to be honest. Ok Modric and VDV was talent we did not want to lose but as I say we could have and should have replaced like for like.

I would argue that 33million from Real for Modric is 33million we didnt have before to miss so why not invest it??

We could argue over pounds and pence but the failures in the league and the performance this season could be just as financially costly as scrimping over the odd million here and there on a transfer fee...

You choose what you see I guess. As for making generalized statements you are hardly the model of specificity. Personally I think the talk of AVB and his 'system' is ridiculous - not even sure you or anyone knows what that means. It is used as an excuse to mask some highly questionable decision-making and a stubborness on display throughout last season. I will give him time, we have no choice in any case. But not sure how the comparison with his immediate predecessor is so irrelevant considering the comparisons others are making.

Everyone knows about the 4 in 15 because people like you would not let anyone forget it. But broaden it to a more macro context and Harry's success was 4th 5th 4th. Needed the results to get those positions.
 
Nayim, you are a very good poster in general but what you are saying is a classic example of the rheotoric that is posted by people who are just glad that Harry is gone, regardless of how successful we were under him and how bad we look now.

Some people just don't want to admit that Levy has dropped a gonad.

In the two seasons we came 4th, particularly last season - we were amazingly consistent in the first half of the season and played attractive football. Only due to the exceptional points tally of the two manchester clubs last season, we would have been top at xmas.

If it was that easy to replace Modric like for like Madrid would have taken said player instead of haggling with us all summer.

In many ways Dempsey is like for like with Rafa, he has been unavailable though and Rafa having only just left kind of precludes getting it done early.

None of that is my point though - which is had Harry stayed I fully expect life to have been somewhat rocky at this time anyway.
 
I'm not putting all the blame on AVB cos that's not fair. Levy once again fudged around in the transfer window. Its worrying because we are not replacing our best players. We had all day to get the Moutinho deal done, wait hang on, we had fudgein months to get it done. All of a sudden on the final day of the window we realise his wages are a problem? Are you kidding me?

As much as Levy is an excellent businessman, we should probably just write off the first 3 games of the season every year from now on because the way we do business leaves a lot to be desired.
 
I disagree, I am not saying Harry is a saint and in fact I am not actually using this as an AVB v Harry argument.

I am saying that not only did I find our dealings in this window "strange" (Example: Huddlestone out the door last night yet coming on today makes me think the club are very unsure of their playing inventory) but also I think we dealt with things badly and not like a team with these big ambitions.

Modric for me you can not replace but you can try and try a little harder than we did.
