Lack of trust + insatiable need for speed = disaster

Looking at many of the stories currently reverberating around our planet, it has struck me that the way public trust in communities such as science and law enforcement has been eroded (and the way in which agitators continue to widen the chasms) is actually terrifying if you ponder it for too long.
We have vast swathes of people who genuinely don't trust science, or scientists, insisting that they're all out to fleece us any which way they can. Add this distrust to the growing societal need for fast, quick answers on any issue, and it is a disaster. There is an almost insane distrust in academia, and there is both a distrust and lack of patience in any action which requires time and close analysis to produce conclusive answers to complex issues.
It is literally nuts!
The only way I deal with it is to recognise how little control I really have, and live my life as the best person I can be on a local level.

Post Covid this part of society has become worse. Beyond the lack of trust and lack of belief in science or medicine as an example, they who speed at which people want to jump on a half story to be hateful as quick as they can is MENTAL

I'm on the fence with this one actually. If I keep it safe and stick to football, I'm a strong believer that we should always push back on things we don't agree with. The Infantino nonsense this week is a good example. The shocking job that Howard WEbb and PGMOL are doing is another. However small our voice is, I think it is right to speak up. It all counts.

Now for the caveat.....

Where it gets grey area for me is where I don't have the cycles in my life to be informed. That is mostly where I struggle and take a massive step back on topics I used to enjoy. Politics mostly fits that category for me. I try to stay out of convo's as it just pulls me back in and I end up spending ages trying to catch up. Current affairs is about as deep as I go.

Trust has to be earned. Paticuarly when it’s been proven that the sectors you mentioned in academia, science and law enforcement continuously lie to us and are so easily manipulated my money. Add in the government and media to that.

To put a left spin on it. Gary Stevenson is currently the most prominent economic voice of the left and is heavily critical and distrustful said academia relating to economics. He discusses his expirience at Oxford when studying his masters in great detail and extremely distrustful of them.

Is his distrust insane? Or are his criticisms legitimate?

The lack of trust in scientists and academia is not evenly spread across the ideological divide. Trust in scientists has become sharply divided along partisan lines, particularly in the US. It is no coincidence that proto-fascists go after education and institutions of higher education in particular.

He doesn't distrust them.

He just thinks they are out of touch and not very smart.
