Kyle Walker

If they need it, they can easily get a multi billion dollar sponsorship for their training ground/car park/club mascot/upper tier block 22 trashcan though. £54m is not even close to a fair price when you deal with financial cheaters.

But it's a world record for a defender

And one that some on here don't even think is the best in his position in our club

The sooner Sky and BT bite the dust the better ( imo) between them ( mostly Sky) they have ruined what used to be the greatest game.

Sky are just a broadcaster - Football/EPL has just followed the likes of the NFL and NBA in the US. Not liked by many in Europe but sadly inevitable.

£50m is 12.75% of Emirates Marketing Project's revenue from 2015/16 (last published accounts)
Its the equivalent of us spending £26.79m on a player (12.75% of our £210m revenue)

They got him on the cheap.

So?........that's pointless in the case of City, they have unlimited funds. They could have paid 150 mill and it wouldn't have made a dent in their bank

Everyone saying they got him on the cheap are not coming forward with an actual figure that City should have paid.

So if they got Walker on the cheap, how much do you think they should have paid

A broadcaster who has been fudging up the best game in the world and ripping of punters and fans while doing so.

I still enjoy it greatly.
I find it very sad that people such as yourself do not.
I enjoy and concentrate on the game itself and de-emphasise all the hype and fluff that surrounds it.

Before the rumours came out that Walker wanted to go to City it was generally accepted by most people on this forum that he was the best right back / right wing back in the country. Now he is on the verge of leaving all of a sudden out comes the digs and Trippier is better at this and at that etc. I swear football fans can be so full of s-h-i-t-e sometimes.

I wish him well, I will applaud him when he plays against us and hope Trippier can step up.
It saddens me that you do not believe in Poch, because by implication you think he would agree to sell the best RWB in the country without having a clear plan for how he will replace him and improve the squad all round as a result.

Keep the faith!!!

That a % of the mor revenue not their profit

They also have very few saleable assets now so again have the issue that they can't bring money in that way

It's a fair price IMO

Why would it matter how much profit they made? They aren't taking the profit home and spending it.
The business of the club is buying assets from their revenue.
The bigger revenue they have the more they have to spend.
It would be silly to have a profit at the end of the year to pay tax on.

It like saying a guy earning 35k has more to spend next year than a guy earning 100k, because the guy earning 35k had £500 more in his bank account at the end of the year.

It's a fair price but it's also cheap at what Levy could have drained them for.
He could have dragged it out all summer, letting City think they were just a week away from signing him, before demanding £65m on the last week of the window.

No revenue is income and is needed to cover costs... after the costs have been covered you have profit which is what you can invest. You can't buy based on revenue or turnover unless not you spend less than what you have coming in

Clubs have plenty of revenue but still not a pot to tinkle in as their spending it in costs .... and losing money

I try and think logically, eg I don't know the full facts, what Poch's plans are, who's expendable, in the view of the club, plans for new aquistions etc, who wanted out etc but selling him to major competitor just doesn't feel right. There's also the message that it sends out to other clubs, players and agents.

So Walker doesn't want to leave but Poch wants him out? That's a completely different narrative to what's been reported and talked about here.

Not totally. There's been a lot about Poch and Walker falling out due to rotation/Walker lack of fitness/Walker injury problems/Trippier in ascendancy.
There has also been a lot - probably more - about wanting to move back north, or increase in wages.

I think the former is the key here.

Problem is ...we have strengthened a rival

That is the problem.

However not all out players will want to go abroad. So what do we do, keep them hostage?

My view has been out of all our rivals the one club I don't mind any of players going to is City. We will never sell to Chekski or Arse, so that leaves Liverpool Utd and City......City are the lesser evil imo

I just think our once in a generation team does deserve to be paid better and that would help hold off any discontent for a little longer

Did you read the responses below that message?

Heard different. From someone close to the club. He and his missus having issues and he wants away from London to rebuild. Can't blame him

Nope. Easier just to say Poch wants him gone and mind you that may be true as well as he wants his players to be focused

No but we could have made them pay more. So that we can insure that we can strengthen better against the rival we've just strengthened.

The longer Levy negotiates the less time we have to find a replacement/buy a different player. If Levy had dragged this out and got more money some on here would be moaning about him being more focused on money than the good of the playing staff.

Worse we have weakend ourselves and all the teams around us have gone big in the transfer window. They must have a decent rb lined up as this transfer has hardly just come out of the blue.

If we got 10 or 20 mill more it would have just pushed up the prices of the players we are after. So there is no gain really

The market is mad. There is no way to get ahead by trading players. We would have been far better simply keeping Walker even if he was happy or not.

So I guess Levy had found his match, or he isn't the master negotiater we make him out to be.

Agreed
But Trippier is the best in the league at crossing of ANY player IMO

Unfortunately he gets turned too easily and isn't a physical presence
Trippier is a big step down defensively from Walker BUT I agree totally that as a crossing machine Trippier is the best.

And let's face it 80% of our games will be against teams we dominate and a crossing machine is what we need.

Don't be surprised if Poch has a plan for the other 20% and it includes Trippier never playing. He solves most things and it may not involve buying another player. He may play Dier or Wanyama there (in a 4 at RB) for all we know, (Dier was never a DM once, remember) to counteract all the talented wide men the best teams have.

Let's just see how it rolls. I'm relaxed about it.
