Jose Mourinho - SACKED

The Mourinho effect?

Since he was appointed, the only teams to get more points in the league than us are Liverpool and Emirates Marketing Project
The only teams to have conceded fewer are Liverpool, Emirates Marketing Project, Sheffield United and Crystal Palace
The only teams to have scored more are Liverpool, Emirates Marketing Project and Leicester.

Small sample size, but the correct direction.

This was the Jose win we were looking for, statement.

We kept our discipline, they should have been down to 9, took two opportunities and closed the game

On a week-end where everything pretty much went for us, we needed to take advantage, well done

I'm as much a fan as anyone but I wouldn't put too much stock in those stats. We're playing puke football. Admittedly, he's getting the defence sorted so hopefully builds on that but we're a long way off right now.

I saw 2-3 passages of play when Ndombele and Lamela came on that genuinely got me excited. Hopefully we get more of that. But the football in the first 60 mins today was totally unacceptable.

Completely, though I think we should really only start to judge him from next season. He needs a commanding CB, RB and back-up CF....as well as potentially a DM, depending o how Winks, GLC, Ndombele and Dier (once given time to recover from his illness) shape up.

Important thing about today is that its a statement, and something to help the new guys gel. And great that we have Rose and Eriksen out of the door, to help the feeling that we've moved on to a new era

Yeah I think that's all very fair comment and those points are well made. I looked today and it felt that this was no longer Poch's team.

I also was quite surprised looking at a fella like Son who I never put down as one of our leaders and thinking, of the lads on the pitch today absolutely he's one of our leaders and someone the newer players should look to. The plates have definitely shifted.

Oh yeah, such a small sample size. But you can be darn sure that it the same stats showed us 3rd or 4th worst in the league, a lot of stock would be put in them.
I'm just happy to see an upward trend.
COnsidering I had wanted Poch to be given at least a season after the Champion League final only to be convinced by the argument against after our repeated poor showings, this is promising.

I would really recommend you go back and look at the game.

- City had possession and had us under pressure but we held out lines very well

That's not playing badly, thats knowing that we had several days rest on them, let them attack, hold your lines, then get yourself into the game. Were you expecting champagne football against one of the better sides in europe?

No not at all. They're formidable. But we're not playing with Rasiak, Andy Booth and Gary Doherty up top. We have some very, very good players and kept giving the ball away. That wasn't good enough by a long way. The defence was actually pretty good a couple of Sanchez and Aurier brain farts aside. But we've got to be better in possession even against a side as good as City.

If we can get Ndombele on the same path as GLC then we are heading towards Jose's favourite 433.

Winks (currently) is the 3rd person in that 3 but if Dier comes back to form or Gedson shows talent it could be them.

The other benefit of that is not only does this help the full backs ie they aren't required to bomb on as much but also we only need to select 3 frontmen from the apparent bare bones we have.

Lamela Stevie Dele Son Moura and of course Kane when he's back. Plenty of rotation opportunities.

And hopefully a midfield that plays a type of game that syncs with those front men.

Tanganga and Davies as proper, defence first, full backs.

No doubt, but think Jose knows we still haven't got the midfield to front line piece working perfectly so against the best we will still have to absorb a bit of pressure.

We will get better .. you can feel it .. feels very different to 3 months ago ..

In general I had been disappointed in the style of play so far. I know Jose isn't famous for Pep style football but still thought we would see him put more of his own stamp on things by now.
Then I recalled coming across something from one of them so called ITKs a while back (I know, I know its gonads but bare with it) They mentioned that in discussions Jose had suggested that he had ideas around trying to build a team to play in a more modern, quick, counter attacking style, something he thought was the solution to the current fashion of teams playing a high pressing game.
I obviously didnt give it much attention at the time but with signings we have made it does start to feel that way. I wonder what players he has in mind for the Summer window that might be the missing pieces to the jigsaw.

Jose's counter attacking in Madrid was amazing to watch .. if he can try something similar with a couple of additions in summer, it will be fun to see

Jose has lily white glasses on!

He’s insulted about this being called a typical Mourinho victory.

No way does a Mourinho team concede these opportunities.

Just wait until we have a number 9 and a pre season!

Did they really play counter attack

I didn’t see much of them at the time but I’d assume with their dominance is wasn’t the case...
