Jose Mourinho - SACKED

Have you seen the one of him walking through the tunnel high fiving the whole teams worth of mascots? He loves to play the pantomime villain and has obviously made mistakes, but a true clam he isn’t. There are so many in football who know him and say what a great guy he is, including the likes of Conte who had heated rows with him yet still talk about him in high esteem. I like the fact he has that edge to him, someone who wasn’t a complete mr nice guy was needed and as a player you will never be allowed to get comfortable or you’ll face the chop. I for one am glad he’s here, we are lucky to have someone of his calibre....

He is doing the right things for sure. Hard to disagree though I remain cautious in all honesty. Still, so far so good indeed!

Still can't get used to the fella being our manager. Don't know why. Is he too big for us? Is he too much of a c**t? Is he the antithesis of everything we stand for? Dunno. Just takes getting used to and I say that as someone who has massive respect for Mourinho.

I'm still trying to figure out how I feel about Poch going. I got fed up of him for a while with some of the crap he spouted and I posted some fairly harsh things about him that probably went too far. But he just seemed to be ours. It was a perfect fit, destined for great things together and it just went wrong somewhere along the way. And I've no clue when or why, I just know I still feel a sadness, sorrow and confusion that he's gone. However, whatever we achieve with Mourinho, Poch will deserve a large slice of the credit and I'm a little uncomfortable with some of the stuff I'm seeing posted about him (some here but mainly on other boards).

It is tough for sure BUT personally speaking, I can only say we move forwards without forgetting who built the vehicle. Mourinho might well have the finite (and in fairness, proven) driving skills to get it across the line several times over, but Poch built the thing and that should not ever be forgotten.

He has the press eating out of his hand like Redknapp but (thankfully) better known for winning silverware than reality TV shows!

Did they just applaud him as he walked in?

I mean, Christ, journos, I get that you're enamored with the guy, but it's a bit much - it's two games in. Even we as supporters aren't getting that smitten. :p

Poch to me will hopefully be like BMJ, a step in the right direction but ultimately not the final summit.

Re Jose, time will tell, I do think some part of it is his own change (age, he wants to stay in London, he doesn't have the insane pressure of a Madrid or United, etc), but some part of it is the culture of Spurs. I believe you inherit some of the culture of a club (for me Klopp becomes more of a clam the longer he's at Pool), it may be subconscious but we will see.

What is clear is we needed the change, the change for change sake hasn't removed all the problems but done enough to get us moving again.

What was the game where one of our ball boys at Wembley did similar (delay getting the ball back)? I remember the camera catching him winking afterwards.
Think people are going a bit OTT about the Spurs ballboy (not that it wasnt good work of course). All ballboys at various clubs are instructed to throw a ball back ASAP when team is chasing game, and take a lot longer to retrieve the ball when the team is winning. Its nothing that hasnt been done thousands of times before.....

As Jose said, the kid showed real intelligence to recognise the situation and react as he did. Without his quick thinking thats not a goal.

Credit where its due and that.

And credit to Jose, showed last night a glimpse of why we got him in.

Early days but 2 wins in 2 games is a good start. What i really liked was the way he saw that we were being over run through the centre and made the change. Felt sorry for Dier but he will come again and seemed to have taken it well. Liked the way Jose said on the box that he had spoken to Dier and explained why he made the decision.

I am really enthused about how we have looked under Jose and look forward to the future.

Was anyone else fearful of the wrath of Jose if we went in 2-0 down in the half? I was dreading it and I'm not even a player. Why the fudge have I brought into the hype?

Its not hype though ( 25 trophys is for real) as for giving players a gonading well i have no problem with that at all, as long as he can do it with a smile on his face and i loved the way he said he had apologized to Dier in front of the TV reporters.

Man management at its best.

Good article, couple bits below;

When looking at the expected goals trendlines, what’s obvious is that the side stopped being able to dominate in terms of creating and preventing good chances around April 2018. Pochettino’s side were able to outrun the xG for the best part of a year, but the results caught up with the numbers eventually.

The midfield is somewhat less inspiring. Eric Dier and Harry Winks appear to be the preferred double pivot for the time being, which creates limitations. Winks is undoubtedly a calm passer in the mould of Michael Carrick or Gareth Barry, but he primarily passes to the player who really progresses the ball, not the ball progressor himself. This is all well and good, but less so when playing next to Dier who, to put it politely, has a few weaknesses. There is hope that Mourinho might shake the once-useful Dier back into action, but considering his public acknowledgment that health issues have contributed to his poor form, this isn’t an easy problem to fix. His best form, it shouldn’t be forgotten, came when he played alongside Mousa Dembélé, who could control games through an inhuman ability to resist the press. Winks does not provide such skills.

in regards to the recent coverage of spurs, i find it hard to take; he sets media agendas like a pro. last week we talked about dele's brother (what a crock of brick) and this week we are talking about ball boys. it's tedious. it's also super effective. there haven't been any reports about DL being out of his depth or treating poch like an evil slavemaster discarding a tired model.

it's just so boring to me

It’s a good start for sure. The team looks to have recovered some of their mojo after a pretty miserable 12 months. Jose is also saying all the right things but that won’t last.

It is early days and we’ve had two handy games to kick of the Mourinho reign. Could barely have been easier. I don’t expect Bournemouth to be much tougher. By Christmas, we’ll have a better idea of where we stand having played United, Wolves and Chelsea. Personally, I expect him to be a success here in that we will get up the table, challenge for trophies and perhaps win one or two. However, I think there is much work to be done and the two games so far don’t really tell us much about where we currently are.
