Jose Mourinho - SACKED

I do wonder if they will restart the European football schedule next year if we have a voided season. They can't start a new one with the teams in the current top four as all things can change, but if I were a team like Leipzig or Atletico, I'd be tinkled that our place in the quarter finals was under threat.

Then again, the money coming from replaying the group stages would make up for all of that.

I think the issue is what can realistically be restarted... IMO very little currently and there has to be big boy decisions to make

I would take the league making a call now to finish it behind doors if need be, it that would have to be concluded I time to get next season started end of August, otherwise what’s the point.

On the Football Weekly podcast they mooted that this season needs to be finished, even if it means not starting next season. Eg this season could be picked up in say August or September and next season wouldn’t happen. Or there’d be a reduced 19 game schedule. But there are so many issues with that not least what happens with player contracts and the transfer window.
If the window opens then you can’t pick up this season during or after the window as that would give an unfair advantage for the remaining games.
Equally how can you restrict players from moving clubs in the summer, even more so if they are out of contract? That’s curtailing someone’s right to find employment and brings all sorts of legal issues.

Your suggestion makes some sense except what happens if a significant number of a particular squad get the virus or have to self isolate? Does that impact the integrity of the competition? I know the PL didn’t give a flying fcuk when it came to Lasagnegate but this would likely be spread much wider and over more than one fixture. Plus if games are going to be played, players have to train. Which means more support staff needing to come in to work at training grounds. Which means wider risk of infection...)

No easy solution for sure.

Clubs now have a duty of care and so do players to not get infected (easier said than done)
It’s not good shutting the league down and players mixing with others although that is reality
I believe their expecting all players to be clear by a date and they will quarantined to complete the season (good job we have accommodation at the training ground)
They then complete it behind closed doors and hope no one gets it in the process
I think that’s the logic they have kinda adopted but practicalities make that very very unlikely

Hopefully no-one is happy about what he is having to deal with. And he is dealing with an awful lot. And he deserves time to establish what he wants to do, ditto he deserves the full support of our board and chairman. I wish he would curtail his ways, but they are his ways. I have never liked them and never will. That being said, I don't think any supporter can disagree that he deserves time and support to do what he wants to do because this has not been his situation.

Ironically, it appears as though he is on the verge of getting the biggest boost unimaginable; if the season is declared null and void, we will be back in the CL next season!

Not sure that every supporter feels that way though mate, i know of a couple who want him out now and i am sure the forums have folks saying just that. It probably would have been better if you had said any sensible supporter would not disagree with giving him more time.

This is the crux for me, the club was in a mess when he came here and there is still a lot of work to do to get it back where we ALL want it to be. Digging Jose out ( on what in a lot of cases is a pre-conceived opinion) for what he has done/not done ( or supposed to have done) at other clubs is not showing support. Sad to say there are still some fans who take what they read ( in the gutter press) as gospel and take it from there.

I don't get the Mourinho hate. Until he was undercut by injuries, ( and individual errors), we had made up 11 points on fourth place Chelsea. We were scoring plenty of goals including a 5-0 demolition of Burnley, three away at Spammers, and defeated Olympiakos to qualify for the knock out stages of the CL ( no mean feat as they knocked out Arsenal in the Europa!)

Even with these underlying problems, since Mourinho' s appointment we would now be third in the PL !!!

Finally, to compare Mourinho's record with Poch' s last 17 games :

Poch had a simply dreadful record. We only got 18 points in that time and hadn't won away for a year.

Mourinho got us 27 points in that same number of games despite all the problems and even managed to win away!!!!

If you just want goals, under Poch we scored 21 and conceded 22. Under Mourinho we scored 29 and conceded 23.

FFS people, get some perspective. Let us give him time to bring in his own players and get our injured players back with a full pre-season and then see how it is going before passing judgement.

One thing which is important to note -and this is for YOU AjaxDeSuperYids...when I get into what YOU see as "unable to get over Poch" discussions, it is USUALLY to present the flip side of discussions put forth like the one Pirate has here.

That being said, Pirate and I know where we stand on this subject, so onwards with the long-term agreement that Mourinho deserves time and support (however much I don't care for some of his PR stunts).

Part of the issue, for me, is the change in the person in charge, not necessarily the stats. I don't need to list the differences as we all know them - some like them/don't mind them/dislike them - and for me I regret that Poch was not given the opportunity to rebuild the squad as he wanted.

Levy has done amazing things for us as a club, but I think a big mistake was not allowing Poch to move on the players he wanted to (it appears that was Toby/Rose and some others) and bring in players he wanted in. I would be happy if Jose gets to do what Poch was not allowed to do as long as we play great football and scale dizzying heights and maybe even win a pot or two. If Jose doesn't I will always be sad we couldn't see what Poch could have done.

I agree there are a lot of problems for us at the moment and its going take time to fix.

As for critics of Jose he has made enemy's over the years of some in the press so i do not expect much from them, its the fans who are rubbing their hands is glee who never wanted him here in the first place that i have a problem with. They seem to take more glee in seeing him struggle then doing well.

You are not going to change those fans and nor should you, rivalry of those he managed is the game. Fact are if he wins despite them then does it matter?

For me he came into club eyes open and on his terms if he didn’t then that’s on him. He is paid well and is a top profile manager so based on that and the fact no one held a gun to his head to take the job knowing the landscape then he has to win stuff, that’s the minimum and if he does I will keep my mouth shut, if he doesn’t then he deserves critics within reason

tickle my balls with a feather but the important words are " within reason". Sadly there is a lot of hysterical bitching from some.

But he was the one who broke it.
Are you suggesting Poch was happy to keep all his ageing players and not bring in any new ones? If that is the case, then he did break it. If however, as has been strongly suggested, he wanted rid of certain players and wanted to bring new ones in, and Levy would not/could not do that, then he didn't break it. It broke because it got old and hadn't been refreshed.

I'm saying Poch spent so much time staring at auras, talking about lemons and out-bottling the world's biggest bottler that he probably didn't even notice everything falling to brick around him.

I’ve said this loads but if we wanted rid of players Poch could have helped and down a LOT more
Rose even came out in one of his paper rants and said I’ll leave when the manager stops having me in his office telling me what to do!!!!
Jose came in and it took him 2 weeks to realise he wasn’t wanted!!!
Poch is massively accountable on players leaving IMO
And let’s not forget for these players to leave too someone had to want them. No one bid for Toby at the bargain £25m remember

and something I've said loads, we did sign new players, but the effort wasn't put into improving them that had been to the previous batch
