John White "The Ghost" 28.04.1937 - 21.07.1964

That ball looks like a fudging medicine ball. Im sure they were pretty heavy in those days too which impresses me more about these older players?

As someone else said, they were fine when they were dry but when wet they were a nightmare. We use to dubbin them to waterproof them, it didn't work, they'd soak up water, get stuck in the mud and don't even talk about heading the lace. Take all that into account, add in pitches that were usually replicas of The Somme and boots that make clogs look elegant and you get a sense of how unappreciated nowadays was the level of their skill and criminally underpaid they were.

My daughter sent me this link, i was only young at the time but remember seeing him play and what a player he was. Such a silky player who was such a important player for Sir Bill.

Nice article about a great player, he could run all day and had precision passing with both feet, sad to read he had such personal problems, I think it was a better time when we didn't delve into players private lives.

May have said this before but my old man in adamant his death had such an impact on the club that it had the reverse of what say Munich did to Man United.
