Fear of consequences and the futility are a powerful combination. Why risk the consequences when your actions probably won't make a difference?

I assume that the exposed cover-ups over the past five years are not a reflection of a changed society, but more a consequence of the greater access to information through the internet etc, coupled with new laws on freedom of information that it sparked. The cover-ups are finally being exposed.

Its a shame that the person behind Wikileaks turned out to be a real flake. The basic idea was good. Of course, the conspiracy theorists will point to prosecution of Assange as part of a grand cover-up by the powers that be.

Because then you may look at yourself in the mirror and see someone who did the right thing regardless. Knowing you may have stopped it happening again, even just once, whether or not just action is taken.

I hope (anyone who goes on a rant!) gets the free pass and not a ban/infraction the same as folks who insult me get from Mods (steff aside). This type of thread is always going to be emotional dynamite.

Thinking back a bit to Gifter's previous posts on this thread, interesting question from Tom Watson in parliament today:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-20070093

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/u...o-10-mp-tom-watson-demands-probe-8224702.html

In the aftermath of Mr Watson’s remarks, media outlets speculated that he was referring to the late former Prime Minister, Sir Edward Heath - who was the subject of unsubstantiated rumours about sex with under-age boys - or to Sir Peter Morrison, a former Downing Street aide who died in 1995.

In her new autobiography, serialised in a newspaper at the weekend, the former Conservative minister Edwina Currie claimed that Sir Peter had sex with under-age boys during the 1980s but had been protected by “a culture of sniggering” from colleagues. At the time the boys were aged 16 and the age of consent was 21. Police were apparently aware of Sir Peter’s activities but declined to act.

I was once told that a prominent member of cabinet who later went on to resign was a paedophile, apparently it was an open secret, can't say any more because I don't want to Westland the board in bother.

Strewth, perhaps I need a signature for all my posts "these are the thoughts of gifter... clearly I'm not speaking for the board"!

Tom Watson has added a few more details on his own website regarding his question today. There's a lot going round at the moment regarding peado rings in entertainment and politics that have been hidden for a vast period of time. It'll be interesting to see if anything comes of it. It seems the Saville case has put people in prominent positions in society under the spotlight. It might be worth if your interested listening to talks by Brian Gerrish of the UK Column on some of the stuff he has been uncovering in his investigations.

"A little more background on today’s PMQ’s

I cannot give much more detail until the police have been given more time to investigate whether evidence still exists from the mid-nineties, but here is what I can say.

Last week I was contacted by a former child protection specialist who for some years, had been concerned that a wider investigation regarding the activities of convicted paedophile, Peter Righton was not fully investigated.

He contacted me because he knew I had spoken out in the Murdoch scandal. Over the years, he had lost faith in the ability of politicians to get to the truth. The last time he contacted an MP was in 1994. The MP promised to follow up the case but nothing came of it.

The central allegation was that a large body of material seized in the raid on Righton’s home had not been fully investigated. Though Righton was the subject of a BBC profile in 1994 [I think this is the date] “The Secret Life of a Paedophile”, little had been done to follow up the leads from the case. A specialist unit in Scotland Yard had the material which supplemented a wider investigation into organised paedophile rings in children’s homes.

Over the last few days I have spoken to two other child protection specialists who share the concern of the gentleman who contacted me.

Within the material seized at Righton’s home were letters from known and convicted paedophiles. The contact, who has seen the letters, claimed that one paedophile in particular was of great concern. He said that the paedophile, who worked with children, boasted of a key aide to a former PM who could help get hold of indecent images of children. I am not naming the person for obvious reasons but for clarity it is not former MP, Peter Morrison. This afternoon my office has been bombarded with calls regarding Morrison, I think because he was named by Edwina Currie at the weekend as having inappropriate sexual relations with teenage boys.

I’ll say more when I can but this may not be for some time.

I should say that like with the hacking scandal, a number of people have contacted me this afternoon offering more information regarding the case. I am happy to talk to anyone who can help me – particularly those who came into contact with Righton and his contacts when they were young. I can understand how powerless they must have felt at the time – Righton’s net was cast wide.

One person also contacted me to suggest that the Met held a vast quantity of material suggesting Jimmy Savile was a predatory paedophile. I do not know whether this is true but I do know the source and she has been 100% accurate in the past.

One final thing I should say – I made the decision to ask a question of the PM late this morning and had not had time to write to the Met before speaking out. I have no doubt the Met will take this seriously and am sorry I didn’t have time to forewarn the commissioner of my intention to raise the matter.

I have written to him this afternoon with more details regarding the case. This will obviously remain confidential."

Well I will say that I thought Gifter's comments and posts were insightful and held a certain weight of truth. It is absolutely impossible to deny that there is all sorts of filth which is hidden from the public which occurs at levels of government.

I don't think every politician on the planet is hiding some disgraceful perversion, but to deny that there are pedophiles, pedophile rings, drug sponsors, etc, is naive. Power corrupts. There is a very interesting place in the US called Bohemian Grove where some of the "world's most powerful men" go once a year and basically act like weirdo Paganistic freaks in robes and GHod knows what, getting up to GHod knows what too...

David Peace wrote some very interesting fictional takes on the Yorkshire Ripper era of Northern England, and frankly, it's hard to understand how he slipped by so many so often when you know about the case. I remember it well, and Gordon Burn's book on the subject, Somebody's Husband Somebody's Son certainly raises questions.

I think one of the saddest things coming out of all this (aside from the horrors themselves of course) was learning that Peel seemingly had the illness. I loved his radio show and loved his taste-making. It's sad...

Max Clifford says loads of celebs from the 70's are bricking it. Apologising for them saying 'people didn't check passports for ages in those days' yeah like we so now? You know when a kid is 12 for fudge sake !! And *struggle cuddle* is *struggle cuddle*. I also noted the Daily Mirror is now in the dock over phone hacking?! I see the left wing media outlets have stfu now the shoes on the other foot. ****s

I'm thinking about getting this costume for Christmas:

Might wait for the sale though

I saw a bloke get kicked out of a Wetherspoons at the weekend with this on! His chubby mate was dressed as a school kid and was sitting on his mates lap while having a pint.

It's prob a bit too soon, if ever!
