He’s legit. I saw a programme on him not long ago.
It’s mental the work he does. He’s literally going from stadium to hotel to stadium to airport all day, in and out of taxis, and on the phone to contacts.
He’s sound.

I really though Jan could have played at left back this year. Was surprised he didn’t play more and have a suspicion he found it hard to regain full fitness over the last couple of years.

Better than Ledley? Of course not. Jan was a
Model pro but not as dominant, physical, fast rangy (telescopic?) and didn’t save as many goals imo.

Benfica are a pretty cool club and all but I can't help thinking I wanted him to go for a higher profile club...Sure he's picked the option that was best for him and his family so what I can I say but plenty of the heavy hitters could do with a CB of his quality, unless he is really in a swift decline...
 
Why did Vertonghen join Benfica on a free ? It doesn't make any sense. Can understand if he went back to the Belgium league. But why did he choose Benfica in the Portuguese league ? Benfica are only good in the weak Portuguese league and have not won any European trophies since 1962. Is it because Benfica is paying higher salary to him than us ? He should have stayed with us. I think he will be wasting his talents in a poor league.

I don’t think we offered him a deal with the length he wanted nor was he likely to be first choice. Warmer climate, longer deal, competing for domestic trophies and virtually guaranteed CL is quite a few boxes ticked for a player in the twilight of his career.

You think he’s wasting his talents going to Portugal but advocate going to Belgium or sitting on our bench instead??
