I liked Erik Lamela before it was cool

yeah maybe cronaldo could power his way through goals for us, but messi's goals would just dry up in the current spurs team. my view of course.

would be a great thread for football discussion init - "would you want messi to lead our attack" ?

the type of goals we score are all quite unique at the moment, no fixed formula and none look replicable.

ditto the supply coming from midfield, which seems hell bent on retaining possession instead of taking risks.

lamela has his limitations as a player, but also with the team he plays with.
 
messi is THE most talented footballer in the world. i am pretty sure that there isnt anything our attacking players can do that messi cant do 10 times over

aside from head the ball of course ;)
 
I think Lamela should start shooting from distance like what Bale used to do. Now, Lamela always try to walk the ball into the net and loses the ball in the process. There have been many occasions when he should have shoot instead of continue dribbling. I think if Lamela can get his first ever league goal, that would put some confidence to him to do well.
 
Now we've reached 180 pages - will we see a 180 degree change in Lamela?

Personally I have seen some signs he's coming on. With the team shape and set up right, Lamela needs to be able to link up and play some 1-2s to create space. Technically he's got something. Just this perpetual cutting across the box with no outlet or reverse pass is too predicable.
 
Worked his **** off. Really good pressing ended up with 3 tackles and 4 interceptions.
Compare that with eriksen 1 of each, soldado none, chadli none, dembele 1 interception, Kane 5 tackles.

Nothing came off offensively but he worked like a dog. Thought he was better than many out there. Needs to keep his elbows down though.

Err Eriksen and Kane both scored. who gives a **** about how many tackles he makes. He has not looked like making it as an attacking mid fielder in the prem. He should be gone by January.
 
Not blaming Lamela for the poor performance as the reasoning goes beyond Lamela but as a player and from what I have seen he is utter ****e.

People will no dout compare Soldado and Lamela and why Soldado gets away with it - simply put - Soldado has shown way more in terms of his all round play and ability. Lamela has been really poor and its very funny whenever I see him play. So if you want a comedic act then he is definitely the player to watch.
 
He gives away so many stupid fouls - bar one time, he lost the ball nearly everytime he got it and ran around like a headless chicken. If he was a youth team player you would say he's not up to it. For the money we paid I think he needs to be doing so much more.

Today was one of the worst performances I've seen from him
