How often do you get a new TV?

I'm hoping to purchase a new panny 55 inch plasma... The vt50 is supposed to be the best out there but it's certainly not cheap. Does make me think how long it will last in terms of new tech. Still, the pioneer Kuro was still considered the best picture quality despite being years old.

I upgraded purely because I wanted a larger screen. I went from 50 to 60. Waste of money really but it's allot better. has smart features and 3d. 3d I never use. Waste if time.

Added a nice sound bar and call of duty is amazing on it.

You should have moved your chair a foot closer to the TV and spent the money on hookers, the homeless, or homeless hookers

Don't be silly, TVs will last 15 years easy, a computer would never last 15 years and still keep up with software etc.

There really is no point in upgrading TVs.

If you want a bigger TV, sit a bit closer.

If you want to see old people's faces in extremely high definition, 46 inches wide, you need to go and see a doctor about it.

In your opinion.

I think the big change from when I got my 32" Panasonic LCD (6 years old now I think) other than LED and 3D is that the bezels have simply disappeared off the new models. My brother-in-law's new 37" Sammy is the same overall dimension as my old Panny 32", so I'm praying for an 'accident'.

Apparently a glass of neat Ribena spilled down the guts of a TV by your visiting three year old niece or nephew renders it irrepairrable.*

*May not work if your TV is wall mounted about four foot from the floor.

So I've had a Samsung LCD TV in my room for 5 and a half years. We got the same make but a different model downstairs and it's vastly superior in picture and sound compared to the one in my room. I got a new blu ray player for xmas, but the sound on my tv ain't quite up to scratch. So is it extravagant to go out and buy another tv? I watch a lot of tv and blu rays so it's definitely something I would get my money's worth from.

Depends on how happy you are with the picture. You say the TV downstairs has better picture and sound, but only say the sound on the upstairs TV is a concern. If you are happy with the picture, the sound system like Crawley suggested might be a better investment.

I learnt a long time ago that when watching films improving the sound - by putting the VCR audio though the hi-fi - added just as much to the experience as improving the TV. You should be able to get much better sound from the blu-ray with a dedicated sound system. Then in a year or two you can upgrade the TV and focus on the best picture.
