What will be our net spend this summer?

Was just thinking about how much we will spend. I can see us spending about £30 mill net. Due to the increase in tv money which for us is 33.5m. we can only increase our wage udget per EPL rules by £4m as it is above £52m. Which basically leaves us with £30m to spend. We'll no doubr make a bit, already got Bale CL winner money(£6.5m) plus Defoe(£6m) from Jan. Also can imagine we'd sell one or two. So could easily spend £50m that is currently mooted.
 
I would always say break even, recent history proves it, but I have a feeling we will end up with a 15-20 mill net spend this summer. Levy knows we have fallen behind in the last couple of years dropping from 4th down to 6th so he will have to offer more support financially imo.all the other clubs around us will be investing heavily again.

I'm not sure that spending more is the solution for gaining a couple of places in the league. We need last summers signings to play to their full potential and a bit of luck.

15-20 mill net is hardly going to break the bank. Like I said I don't expect it but I wouldn't be surprised either if Levy makes a little extra effort.

It's 5% of the stadium.

Realistically there will be no return on the investment if it goes on a player. Even if it helps us finishing 5th (or even 4th), rather than 6th won't bring a return (we all saw last time how every penny of CL money got eaten up by wages).

Better to invest in infrastructure, so we can compete on more level terms sooner.

Possibly but I think spending as little as that and without a significant increase in the wage bill and expecting it to close the gap on the clubs with bigger budgets is unrealistic.

I am not of the view that we are doomed and everyone above us, plus Manchester United, will be stronger next season. I think that holding our nerve, having good preparation and a bit of luck could be enough to close the gap.

Levy and Lewis are under pressure now. To players like Loris, Verts, Eriksen they have sold a vision. Those players didn't join the club to be fighting it out for 6th or 7th. The club wants CL football, I'm sure privately they say this to all new signings and to the head coaches. AVB was expected to deliver, and now Poch will be under pressure. The stadium will take care of itself. Right now we are drifting away on the playing side and we will find it harder to keep our better players as well as convince new ones to join.
 
I went for £5m - £10m. Think we can raise say £23m via: £7m for Siggy, £5m for Kaboul, £5m for Livermore, £6m for BAE

Incoming priorities are a top class CB and first choice LB, so say £15m for a CB and £10 for a LB and then £5m on a young 20ish year old keeper to be 3rd choice who can replace Freidel th year after.

That'll do me. We need a quiet summer, just strengthening in key areas

Depends how you calculate it. If we buy a player for £15m and sell for £20m there's a return. If we buy a player for £15m and that is the one player that is needed to get us CL football there's a return.

I understand your point about the stadium and investing in the infrastructure which will create its own income once finished but getting in the right players is the key rather than buying for the sake of buying.

I can see us strengthening our squad with a new LB, new CB and possibly a striker but those purchases will be partly funded by players leaving.
 
So that's c.£8m in profit from Livermore.

Get a few million for BAE and/or Rose next and we'll have enough for a LB.

I suppose the Defoe money (reportedly another £6m) is also still in the bank from January.

so far so good... very systemetic ins and outs...i like this window, though its been quieter compared to i've been accustomed to of late.

Excellent window so far from a financial perspective. The Livermore, Falque and Vorm deals in particular were great bits of business. Less of an excellent window though from a footballing perspective given that in terms of the first 11, we've only upgraded the LB with the other two incomings probably not going to see much PL football this season. That said, hopefully the new manager will improve the first team more than any one player could

I think that's just what we needed though. Minimal changes to the starting 11, some rebalancing of the squad and replacing of persistantly unfit players.
 
I'd like Poch to be given freedom to spend in January. Unlike previous managers.
That gives him half a season to assess his squad, rather than have to make hasty decisions now based on training/friendlies.

There's something to be said for that. And I don't disagree. But obviously only on the proviso that he can address any immediate issues he identifies before the end of August.
