Hotels in California

Bullet

Does anyone know of a good chain of hotels in California?
Nothing fancy, nothing dodgy/dangerous.

If one was driving the coast from San Francisco, Santa Monica, San Luis Obispo, LA, San Diego, where would one stay? Prices seem extremely high so any advice appreciated

The wife and I have done quite a few US road trips, the one you’re mentioning we did in 2005 and it’s, to borrow a US phrase, freaking awesome!!

It depends what your budget is but motel 6, super 8 and travelodge are all well known brands and you should be fine with any of them. Slightly ‘better’ ones are your Ramada, holiday inn etc

I take it you will be taking the PCH, i did that trip on a Harley once and there are plenty of good overnight stops all the way. The trip is amazing and has plenty of great scenary all the way from SF to SD.

You're a brave man, posting a thread like that and hoping for serious replies. :D

I travelled Highway One about eight years back, and we stayed the night at a place called Deetjen's - quite cool place, established by a Norwegian immigrant in a style inspired by Norwegian cottages. Place had proper character: https://www.deetjens.com/

Apart from that, my only advice is to pre book acommodation. We didn't, and got lucky they had a room left here.

super 8 are my budget goto hotel in CA, motel 6 and travelodge are too basic for me and u do get what you pay for
