also, technically isn't pudding defined as being the next course after the main, could be cake, could be cheese and biscuits, could be a bacon roll?

It's usually considered a dessert, but they aren't the only desserts.

The word pudding is believed to come from the French boudin, originally from the Latin botellus, meaning "small sausage", referring to encased meats used in Medieval European puddings.
 
Steak & kidney pudding is rather nice, I think all those steamed savoury suet dishes are called puddings.

My missus recently told me my 'pudding' isn't big enough anymore and that she needs a bigger portion of 'pudding'. Should I be worried?
