He wanted to go, but we didn't accept bids that we thought were too low for him. At least that's what I got from it a couple of days ago, not read the above article.
 
I can understand his viewpoint. We were refusing to include him within squads, we were neglecting his future with our club, but we were also refusing him a way out of White Hart Lane.

Gomes was a great keeper, on his day for us, but sadly he couldn't maintain that level of form. Gomes made far too many mistakes over time, mistakes that shouldn't be made by any goalkeeper and it is this which cost him his time at the club. He was a liability, a clown goalkeeper and sadly this reputation overcome any former greatness that he showed for us.

I wish that it had worked out differently for him with us, but sadly it didn't. I wish that he could have better things to say about our club. I wish that Levy had allowed Gomes a transfer, if the club had no intention of Gomes playing any further games for us. I know that we don't have to pander to people but what was the point in halting a player's career simply over the cost of one or two million pounds, that ultimately he would have cost us through wages!

Good luck Gomes at Watford, hope that it works out for him.

This reads like him trying to put a positive spin on things to me. I remember reading a couple of pieces which suggested that moves had broken down because of his wage demands.

Well its not the first time he's complained about it. I remember him complaining about exactly this when he was here....
 
Good luck to him. I bear him no ill will: he was great in the season we qualified for the CL, and hopefully he returns to that form at Watford. And if he can get rid of the shakiness that plagued his time at Spurs, he'll be the complete goalkeeping package, imo. He's still quite young for a GK, judging by the trend of ever-ageing goalkeepers being offered new contracts regardless (Friedel, Buffon et al), so if he keeps at it, he might even make the Brazil squad again one day.

It must have been awful for him spending so much time not even making the bench. I'm just pointing out that there have been other reasons given why some of the deals for Gomes are meant to have broken down.
 
He was at times brilliant and at times woeful, not consistent enough for me

I remember his amazing display when we beat Arsenal 2-1 and also his horror shows at Craven Cottage & Stamford Bridge

But he says he was playing with an injury. Did the club force him to? Did we not have enough backup of sufficient quality? Or was there something lost in translation between manager and player?
 
i can't remember what game it was but he saved a penalty, spilled the ball then fouled the attacking player, giving away another penalty - which was then scored. that passage of play summed Gomes up perfectly :lol:

Against Blackpool in one of the most frustrating games that I've seen. They kept kicking us to pieces all game and were barely punished. Bale was fouled time and time again.

The incident against Udinese is particularly memorable too. When Gomes was dribbling the ball in the area, lost possession and so rigged down the striker, conceding a penalty and being sent off...he was a heroic clown.
 
if he really wanted to go, he could have, he was just content picking up nice paycheques for doing very little
