Harry Kane MBE

It's a fairly common injury, it appears. I had a very similar sort of experience myself all the way back in my undergraduate days - one of my first days at university, actually. Heavy challenge came in while I was going down the touchline, and my ankle gave way under me. Same sort of reaction as your team-mate had - I was struggling to breathe for a bit, the pain was so intense and so sudden.

But, unlike Harry and any other reasonably sensible chap, I actually tried to go on playing when I felt a bit better. Big mistake - couldn't last more than five minutes, but the damage was done, because I could see and feel my foot visibly swelling up as I struggled back to my dorm. By the time I got back, it was massively bruised and swollen(size of a rugby ball, or so it seemed) and I couldn't do anything other than prop it up and wait for morning. When I finally got to the sports injury specialist at the uni gym, he told me bluntly that I'd turned a month-long rehab period into three months or more of close treatment.

Basically ended my outfield career, because by the time I got back the only spots open in the intramurals were for goalkeepers - so I signed up as one, discovered I was roughly decent at it and stayed a keeper from then onwards. Fortunately, I don't think that's a fate Harry will have to suffer - if his spell in goal against Asteras is any indicator. :) Hopefully, it turns out to be just three weeks to a month and he'll be back fit and firing by the end of April.

Ah man, yeah, you needed a big-mouthed elder teammate to tell you tis stay off the fudging thing (i.e. you needed me there!!!!!)...my son had terrible luck. He'd previously spent 12 months out rehabbing his knee and ACL. He coaches now.

Didn't think it was at the time, actually - still don't, because the choice was between being a pretty sh*t winger with two left feet or a somewhat competent goalie. ;) Point being, the physio said an initial recovery period for even a relatively painful ankle injury like that was about a month, which tallies with what @AdamB and @thfcsteff were saying - Kane didn't look in that much pain when he went off, so maybe with all the access he has to better nutrition, physiotherapy and care than we ordinary sorts can rely on, he'll be back at the most by that time, and very possibly sooner.

I certainly hope I am right, but let's be clear, like all the click-baiters on the web and hopeful Spurs supporters here, I actually know fudge all (a point most of you already knew!!!!)...

Yeah, but I'd like to believe that you know, despite that. Makes me more hopeful before tomorrow's terse 'Kane out for six months' article appears on the OS. :p

I'm sorry to hear that about your son. :( Injuries are indiscriminate, horrible f*cking things.

It'll come down to the grade of ligament strain. My guess by his facial expressions at the time is that its a grade two which means about four weeks.

Grade 2 injuries occur when you have a significant ligament injury that allows the ligament to excessively stretch. In most cases these injuries result in a recovery period of 4 to 6 weeks. With increasing injury severity, the rehabilitation process becomes more complex and extensive.

All Grade 2 injuries should be thoroughly rehabilitated to enable:

  • full range of motion and strength
  • full proprioception, power and agility
  • full return to sport-specific drills

i've suffered the same but, and like other injuries, econd time in the same spot almost always takes a longer to heal and strengthen (yes they are two separate stages).

then again who knows what our world class physiotherapy centre is capable of? a decade ago defoe was talking about using his own blood plasma to speed up recovery. maybe they are cloning another version of Kane right now :)

It will most likely be a 3-4 week job, but the club will announce he is out for the season, and then he reappears on the morning of the semi

He doesn't seem to have had a full weight on his right leg when the ankle bent which makes me think (hope) that he will be back in 2-3 weeks.

Bournemouth on April 15?

With a little bit of luck
I'd say that's probable. Would've liked him back a few weeks before, but don't think that's realistic.

Good to hear it's not as severe though. It was two months last time, wasn't it? Four weeks this time then, hopefully. Watford at home a distant possibility?

As I said he will only miss the soton game.

The game after that is Burnley which will be 3 weeks after the injury.

Both Harry and Danny will start that game and Erik will awake from his self induced coma :)

positive thinking. I like that.

Kane makes us way more dynamic up front. But if its Soton and Burnley he might miss then I think we can get by with Son and Janssen.

Last summer at standon calling festival I turned my ankle big time, full weight on it as well as a gazebo which I was carrying. Hurt like fudge and swelled up nicely. Best they can do for Kane is fill him with booze, deprive him of sleep and keep him on his feet for 3 days. He'll be back in three weeks

Given we have 3 games in 7 days starting with Burnley in 3 weeks time, really need him back for that short run: opposition isn't the hardest but that's a quarter of our remaining games so playing cr ap could hit us badly
