Glastonbury

You do all realise you’re missing Lana Del Rey on The Other Stage?

Her set seems to have gone on too long so there's a mass Acapella sing along she has instigated now the powers gone out. Who'd have thought we'd see a Glastonbury where Rick Astley and Lana Del fudging Rey are more rock and roll than Guns N Roses ffs.

I was there watching, Slash is unbelievable, ridiculously talented.
Axl doesn't have any power in the higher notes, but it's fudging Guns N Roses! Who doesn't want to listen to it?! Always better.

If they were real rock n roll they’d be dead not doing some sorry ass act of how they were 30 years ago.

even 30 years ago they were a sorry assed rip off of what had come before.

frauds.

I saw her a few years ago at a festival. Sunday evening slot and it was chucking it down. It should have been an absolute disaster but for whatever reason it was an incredible gig. I can't really explain why it all seemed to click and she couldn't believe it herself really. She was blubbing up a few times at the crowd reaction and it wasn't a put on. Weird but good.

Rick Astley is more rock and roll than GNR.

"Technical issues" is always an easy out but it just seems like a bad performance to due to with a lack of control over vocal dynamics. It's not as simple as a battery running out.

I'm still watching but it's in the way people slow down to look at a car crash kind of way, it's kind of sad, it's hard not to wince watching it. I appreciate that Jordinho might be a superfan of sorts and doesn't want to see the bad side but it's hard to defend the vocals, when you can hear them they're dogbrick.

Slash is still great for the most part but takes the frettossing to extreme levels, not really got the less is more approach and was dreadful on Estranged. Great to see them play Mr Brownstone and Rocket Queen though, hoping to see Night-train and that'll be my realistic want to see list sorted.

When you hit their vintage, you have to do the hard yards off-stage. Look after yourself all the time, eat properly, do proper vocal warm-ups, and even then it might be too late, because if you didn't start paying attention to that sort of stuff at least 15 years ago, the chances of being able to deliver anything close top what you used to is extremely remote. The best live rock bands of that era remain so because they deliver great performances, and that in turn is because they train for their gigs. I don't believe Axl ever took the level of care necessary early enough to deliver performances which could even be in the same post-code as his younger days.

p.s. I just watched "Live & Let Die"...good grief!!!!!!! Horrific!

Even in his youth the vocals had that sharp, straining element to them (which made them so good) but I don’t think you can abuse like that and get away with it decades later.

Apparently it’s often the lower end that goes first, leaving a thin falsetto without much power.

Sad to see really.

We went to see Sting last night playing in our local park. Got absolutely hammered and going to see Pink today

but… I’ve just put on Rick Astley …

Loving the suit

I first saw Guns 31 years ago almost to the day of last night. They can still put on a great show. Axl’s vocals live held up much better than I expected but agree with other comments that his high register has no power anymore. Honestly who cares, it’s Axl fudging Rose and his energy was fantastic.

Looking forward to Thundercat and Phoenix today. Maybe a bit of Blondie too.

Call the Comet have been my standout so far
