Glasgow Rangers

A good point made by Stuart Cosgrove, who noted that the same sections of the media (both UK and Scottish) who describe the current situation as 'armageddon' for Scottish football are the same that cheered on the Old Firm's bid to join the EPL. They didnt mention an argeddon scenario when it was both Celtic and Rangers leaving. So either they've only now realised they're bothered or it's a myth created to suit the current circumstances and help supporters and clubs ignore the sporting itegrity aspects.

True enough i suppose. But thats the difference between threats of leaving and actually leaving. Its all well and good piping on about the EPL but in terms of leverage its the nuclear option, which sadly has come to pass - and neither side wanted it to, because it was always posturing in order to get stupid clauses inserted to broadcast deals.

I agree this whould be a great chance for scottish football to be reorganised. If Rangers were to start in the 3rd division the crowds would be increased for those clubs even if 50% of Rangers fans did not go and perhaps fans of clubs in the preimeir league would be more likely to go to matches as europan football would be more open.

It would reignite the SPL in terms of attendances. Fans would pay to go and watch games again, because there'd be genuine competitiveness for at the very least those two Europa League spots, and if Rangers were dropped into the 3rd division, that competitiveness would last for a lot longer than it otherwise would. And who knows, maybe even Celtic wouldn't be as strong as they would have been had Rangers stayed in the SPL, due to the foregoing of their lucrative 'Old Firm' TV deals, so a shot at the title isn't as unlikely as it currently sounds for the likes of Hearts and Dundee United.

Like I said, it's a chance for Scottish football to really, genuinely improve itself, and start a new era of competitiveness and equality for all the clubs in the leagues. a chance for it not to be a tinkling contest between Celtic and Rangers and a bunch of failing clubs resignedly competing for that final Europa League spot every year.

If TV coverage of Scottish football was reduced would that jeopardise Craig Burley's employment with ESPN and has that influenced his opinion?

Rangers: Five former players refused transfer clearance

I don't get it. They have absolutely no affiliation with the newco Rangers. They are not part of the club. they have never been part of the club. How in hell can a club that has never owned them receive compensation for them 'leaving'?

Or is this just going to be another of those 'we treat Rangers differently because they're Rangers' things?

FIFA are giving them temporary visas. They'll go to court and the moves will be approved.

Yep. The way their proxies in the media are behaving makes it impossible to have any sympathy for Rangers plight.

It's the big kid in school picking on all the little kids and taking their lunch money all over again...

So if you support a club that draws 'only' 200 people you're a muppet? What a complete qunt.

not that bit, but his overall opinion, the SPL (and in turn the entire league) is fudged without the Old Firm rivalry, they might get away with one season with no big games, but 2 or 3 would kill the product stone dead

You said product. Oh dear.

fudge the product. This attitude is killing the game. Most Scottish fans would prefer to have 4,000 attendances in a sustainable competitive league than have a pyramid designed to prop up two giants who then go bankrupt. The product is already fudged.

It would kill the old firm dead yes.

The rest of the SPL will probably be fine. They'll even be able to renegotiate the splitting of the TV revenues, to make the league fairer.

That might make finances difficult for celtic..

There is an analogy here with the Scottish independence debate really... Rangers are the Bankers/Finance team... the plug gets pulled from England and the whole Scottish league pyramid is thrown into disarray...

Absolutely sickening. What point is there in sport if the winners and losers don't get what they each deserve? What point would be there in going to see games when you know that the biggest clubs in the country would remain the biggest clubs in perpetuity and no amount of cheating that they did would get them punished? The entire premise of football support is based on the idea that one day, your club may rise to the top. If the people in charge guarantee you that that will never, ever happen because the biggest clubs in the country will always remain the biggest clubs in the country, what point is there in following football at all?

This sickened me when it happened in Argentina (River Plate's relegation, and the disgusting ways the country's FA subsequently tried to get that reversed), and it sickens me even more now it's happening in Scotland.

Rangers, by all rights, shouldn't even be allowed into Division Three, given that they lack the requisite three years' worth of accounts and cannot guarantee fulfillment of their fixtures. The SFA should be grateful that fans are grudgingly prepared to overlook that and allow them in anyway, not shamelessly try to stop that happening.

Who will now own Ibrox?

The stadium appears now to be owned by Sevco Scotland Limited - the Rangers newco formed by Charles Green - although some Rangers' supporters are still asking for clarification of this.

I think there is a possibility that the liquidators of Rangers oldco (the plc) will claim that the assets were sold at undervalue by the administrators and seek to have the sale reversed - returning stadium ownership to them.

The situation is a complete mess,
