General Transfer Rumour Discussion Thread

I think we will be alright. You don't want too many signings as we usually have the better season when we have stability and only make one or two signings. Arsenal have hardly added this year but they will be strong.

The main thing is we have looked to tighten up our defence so we should be looking at conceding less goals next season and our current players should only improve with playing together again(Bentaleb, Kane, Eriksen, Chadli). Dele looks like he's going to be a great addition also.

All we really need is a striker to be back up to Kane. I'd rather us play against United with a similar team to last year as they have 4 or 5 new players that won't be used to playing together. That said, I do think we will get tonked by United!

We're not really in the same boat as arsenal though! They are able to spend 40 mill on players without having to sell and offer CL football. The opportunity to hurt them came and went in those years we kept finishing 1 point behind them!

They have also managed to monopolise large parts of North London which is very troubling (and sad) and have a significantly large following, something we will need to rectify once we have our new stadium.

They might be getting a bit ahead of themselves there

TRANSFEROL refused an offer (€ 10 M + bonus) offered by Tottenham for Clinton Njie

Clinton Njie will he also join England? (ALEX / PRESS SPORTS) (L'Equipe)

Interested for weeks by Clinton Njie (21 years, under contract until 2019) Tottenham has taken action to secure the services of the Lyon striker. As indicated in our columns, the Spurs have made an offer of around € 10 million and substantial bonuses (around € 5 million) for the Cameroon international. But the OL has declined this proposal. The leaders of the club Rhone, but his coach Hubert Fournier, would prefer to separate from Benzia, out of contract in a year and can also be used as a bargaining chip in a transfer. But if the London club offers € 15 million net to Njie, Lyon can hardly refuse this new offering ...

It's interesting to me that the N'Jie rumours start resurfacing again after our apparent attempts to sign Berahino stall..

For those that have watched both players a decent amount of times, how do Berahino and N'Jie compare?

Berahino

+ A striker who can play up top or off of the left.
+ Has already got existing chemistry with Kane.
+ Is a natural goalscorer who will shoot from anywhere with a good degree of accuracy.
+ Already has BPL experience and is ready to go.
+ Can probably play up top by himself at a push.

- Will cost around £20-25 million if reports are to be believed.
- Has had a poor off the field record, though he's young.

N'jie

+ A wing forward who can probably play off of either flank.
+ Decent dribbler, he's also rapid.
+ Would likely link up well with Kane as he did with Lacazette last season at Lyon.
+ Decent finishing skills, though from the footage I've seen not as accomplished as Berahino.
+ If the stories are to be believed he's ours for 12-15 million euros, a lot cheaper than Berahino.

- No BPL experience.
- Will go away every two years for the AFCON although we should be able to cover.

I know it's an assumption, but I also think that from a defensive stand point N'jie would prove to be the better of the two. He's used to playing wide and thus having more defensive responsibilites. My worry with Berahino is whether or not his striker instincts will kick in and we will see him switch off or fail to track back.

I figured I'd throw in his individual highlights from Lyon vs St Etienne. He's wearing shirt #20 and pops up on both flanks.

And again vs Bourdeaux

He would definitely give us something that we don't have and that is electric pace on the counter attack. I'm not sure his finishing is as polished as Berahino's. He would work well in the high press too.

so last summer Poch wanted Schneiderlin in earlz, we couldnt get the deal done, the club gave him Stambouli instead......this summer, Berahino has been the one weve been linked to all summer, no offer made and now with City interested we probably have no chance, so we go for Njie instead.

Njie to be bombed out by Poch and sign for PSG next summer?

We were linked to Njie earlier in the summer than Berahino. Reading between the lines, appears Berahino was never on our list for this summer, but came onto the list after sacking his agent, who apparently was a problem for us. Maybe we have then tested the water with West Brom, but prices quoted have been too high and we've gone back to the original list?

I'd still take Yarmolenko. He seems

That sounds the most plausible scenario to me. Was actually going to post something similar in the Berahino thread, but this pretty much sums it up.

So we've been linked to Berahino all summer and not made an offer....what does that tell you? Maybe, just maybe we weren't particularly interested in him? Just putting it out there...

Yep, it just makes more sense for the papers to write about an English player. You catch the fans of more clubs that way.

Its starting to look that way and there is talk that he is not our first choice anyway, but you know it will not stop the Levy haters if we do not sign him saying " he's lost another one".

It probably comes down to finance. Berahino double the money of Njie. Its an interesting question, who would you go for? Njie represents better value Berahino PL experience and maybe better shot. We'll probably end up with Werner instead!

How does it seem like that?

Let's go back and look again at Levy's quotes from two and a half weeks ago:

“The window will be reasonably busy,” he said. “We have already brought in four new players since the winter window and we’ve done deals for players who have now left.

“At the moment it is fairly relaxed. I would anticipate that as the window goes on, the activity will happen in the last two weeks but we are trying to business early where we can.”

http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/foo...xpect-more-signings-this-summer-10377395.html

Those are just words at the moment. As I said, let's wait til the end of the transfer window to judge.

I think that it is an indication of what we can expect. Levy is not a chairman who speaks to the press often or talks up our transfer activity. It also fits with previous transfer windows. We will of course see at the end of the window but I don't see anything to support what you were saying:

However it does seem we have withdrawn totally from the transfer market

We will be actively asking questions, looking for value. No doubt. We'll see two players sign I think which would be ideal. Whilst we'd love more - Berinho, Werner, Bender say - 2 is probably more manageable.

Moutinho and Schneiderlin are not English players.

Eh?

Never said they didn't write about other players, but their focus will be English players, players at English clubs and anything involving the biggest clubs. For some reason we are THE go to club when you need to make up something quick to fill a page.

Berahino has been mentioned almost daily this summer, mostly in connection with us.
