Sad Spurs fans offered chance to swap old Gareth Bale shirts for free burger
Wednesday 4 Sep 2013 4:35 pm

A London restaurant is offering glum Tottenham fans a chance to get over losing Gareth Bale to Real Madrid this week – by swapping their old Bale shirts for a premium burger.

The Diner eatery has come up with the plan following Bale’s world-record £85million transfer to Real in the last few days.

The move not only left Spurs fans without their star player, but they were also beaten by north London rivals Arsenal in a difficult few days for the club and its fanbase.

But any sad supporters can get a perfect pick-me-up by taking along their old Bale Tottenham shirts to The Diner in the capital’s Soho district – and exchanging it for some comfort food, with a free burger up for grabs.

The jersey amnesty runs until Saturday September 7, meaning Spurs fans can rid of all their Bale reminders and enjoy a meaty treat before their clash with Norwich after the international break.

bales is going to be a superstar, we should be proud he came through our ranks. how many british clubs can claim to have created a galactico? Just Man U and us.

Maybe they'll nullify the deal and send him back to us...? :-k 8-[

Euro MEP plans to investigate Bale deal

European politician Derk Jan Eppink wants to open an investigation to determine how Real Madrid afforded to sign Gareth Bale from Tottenham.

According to Spanish newspaper AS, Eppink plans to ask the European Commission to investigate the deal between Spurs and Madrid.

He believes the transfer was partly funded by Bankia - a nationalised bank in Spain. Bankia was bailed out by the European Union during the financial crisis - the institution received €19bn in recapitalization funds.

Eppink, a member of the List Dedecker party, has confirmed he intends to send a letter to the Commission outlining his concerns with the deal.

The Belgian MEP has hit out at Madrid for funding the Bale transfer through debt. According to Eppink "they [Real Madrid] have accumulated a debt of some €600m, financed to a large degree by Caja Madrid."

Caja Madrid is a savings bank that is now part of Bankia.

Eppink continued: "It [Bankia] was recently rescued by the European Stability Mechanism [ESM], requiring an injection of no less than €18bn and yet now they offer support in the transaction conducted by Real Madrid.

"European Union funds cannot be used for such unsustainable practices."

The European Commission already plans to look into the financial stability of several La Liga clubs - including Real Madrid, Barcelona, Osasuna and Athletic Bilabao.

Tottenham reportedly received close to £85m for Bale from Real Madrid - a world record fee.

With a bit of luck, Spurs will be able keep the money and get Gareth Bale back.

with our luck more likely the money will get taken back as stolen funds and they'll keep Bale as they have his reg

this does scream out politician raising his profile with bull**** though

300k a week, chance to play for Real Madrid, world record fee ???? Bale was always going to go

He was always going to go...the question was when. And the plan, as placed, was NEXT season. This whole thing has been a massive, massive shafting...I can tell you, there's some people who worked very hard this summer to get us some incredible international placement who are highly disappointed...

maybe the plan was for next season, but the fact Real wanted him now meant that we had no chance in persuading him to stay, even if we finished in the top 4.

the figures are simply incredible...300k a week, world record transfer fee. Real piled on the pressure and got their man. Bale couldnt say no imo

I still say he will be back in England within 2 years though. Just dont see him succeeding out there and living up to the hype. If Real can so easily let a player like Ozil leave, Bale is going to have to perform miracles to survive out there

i think he'll suit spanish football, defenders get booked over there just for making eye contact with an attacker, he'll be waltzing through defences at leisure

Even if he does fail, he ain't coming back to Spurs. Best we can hope for is he doesn't go to scum or Chelsea.
