Gareth Bale

Re: Gareth Bale

So technically Bale & Lennon back for Emirates Marketing Project home.
I have to believe that we can achieve two results with those players.

Re: Gareth Bale

Female physio on Sky Sports says 2-3 weeks. Grade 2 injury. Said its the 2nd time he's injured this ankle so he it is something that could cause him further grief in the future.

time to cash in and bank 60 mill??

Re: Gareth Bale

Would be happy if they're both back properly fit for Wigan and would take 2-3 points from Everton and man C in the meantime. Better to get them back 100% than rush things and risk a recurrence

Re: Gareth Bale

Worrying that it's the same ankle, but good to hear it's nothing very serious. With a bit of luck we can grind out a win against Everton and hopefully also cause trouble for Basle (although I doubt we will get to the semis).

Re: Gareth Bale

Can you REALLY see THAT happening based on previous performances????

should I said.

I feel Sig is ready to get some goals, is looking decent now he's had a run of games and can see Holtby scoring too.

Think with all this press coverage about no Bale etc it might fire them up for Sunday.

Lovely.....and as fans we feel so hard done by when a talent leaves our precious club.

Bale is the real deal and I would give alot to see him grace us in our lillywhite shirt for years to come.

If its the broadcast I watched, they also discussed the thought that "Bale didnt really have anymore ligament in that ankle left to damage"????? Can any of the glory-glory medical experts clarify this? She also said that it his ankles will probably be a problem throughout his career.

I have to say this is very worrying primarily for the lad himself, and secondly for us. Plenty of examples over the last few years of great careers that have been destroyed by perpetual injury. However, if you look at Ledley King, in all honesty if he had remained fully fit he would quite possibly have moved on to one of the massive European sides. I'd say that his injury record was one reason we kept such a great player on our books for his entire career.

Anyway, I'd rather Bale remained fit and well throughout his career - here or anywhere else. But it would be brilliant if he stayed here for a very long time and carved out a golden era in our history :)

Re: Gareth Bale

There's no way he'll be back for Emirates Marketing Project - return to training doesn't mean ready to play.

If we can somehow get a win against Everton, they'll almost certainly be without Merilles - and get a point against City - that'll keep us in it at least.

We're very lucky the Chelsea game's been postponed.

We should grant West Brom fans the freedom of North London if they can get a result against Arsenal tomorrow.

Re: Gareth Bale

There was a good chance that Townsend would have got 0 hours game time if he stayed here. If Lenon got injured I am sure Dempsey / Holtby would have been next in line.

Prem Loans have been good for Walker and Caulker - I am not sure Townsend would have been trusted either way.

i still think he will not be a good enough player for spurs and perhaps this is a way to raise his price before the summer.

Hindsight is great though

But it was not hindsight though, a number of people on this forum intimated it was a bad decision at the time. It left us with just 2 wingers with only one of them actually playing on the wing. I actually think Townsend is good enough, I would rather have him on the wing than either Dempsey or Holtby as neither are wingers. Holtby has spent his footballing career in Germany playing in the number 10 role, and on that basis we signed him, yet we play him everywhere except in the number 10 role. Last night he played on the left and on the right flank, anywhere except where he has been playing in Germany, go figure

Re: Gareth Bale

"The club can confirm that Gareth Bale (sprained ankle ligaments), William Gallas (calf strain) and Aaron Lennon (soft tissue contusion below the knee) all underwent scans today (Friday) after being forced off with injuries during our Europa League quarter-final first leg draw with Basel. "The results of these scans have indicated that all three players are expected to return to training within two weeks. "Bale, Gallas and Lennon have all commenced their treatment today and are responding positively."

But the thing you have to consider is not just when said-winger has the ball at their feet, flying into space and probing...what about when there are defensive duties to take on? What about tracking duties? There are some fine margins in these games as we obviously can all see. I just don't think Andros is the answer. Agree re: Holtby...we need to see him in his preferred role for him to be effective but it's all hands to the pump right now. Personally, I'd even experiment with him playing as a deep-lying midfielder in Basle. I think he could marshall the space in front of the defence and, more importantly, play a quick forward pass. We shall see eh?!

I'm pretty sure that if he didn't have any more ligaments in his ankle he wouldn't have been able to run or do anything football related on the pitch.

Ligaments hold bones together and like tendons, which connect bones to muscles, are essential. This is very different from the lack of connective tissue (cartilage) that blighted Ledley's career. That was not essential as long as you could withstand the pain of bones rubbing together without protection (in practice it was a legendary fight against the pain). Without tendons and ligaments the limbs won't work properly.

Indeed.
I think what was meant to be said in the original comment was not that there were none left, but that the ones there had been 'stretched' by injury already. Double-edged sword; it allows a bit more 'flex' however small injuries could well be more frequent. I suspect serious strapping/ankle support devices are in his future!

Have you seen Townsend at QPR? He does his defensive duties aswell. He's not just some sort of luxury player.

I guarantee Townsend would have been more of the answer to replacing Bale than Holtby or anyone else we have on the wing. Like for like, except obviously more raw than Bale. Holtby was so bad on the wing, yes he works hard but with the way we play you at least have to have a little pace. One on one he will never beat a full back, he's just not that type of player....

He has been decent at QPR, great goal, etc...I agree, as a winger he would've been useful, but I worry about his defensive work and concentration. I do agree that when Bale and Lennon are out, we ned to adapt our game as our current game relies on pace. I suppose short-term he would've been a useful 10-15 min gamble, but frankly, I just don't think he's the long-term answer. Obviously only my opinion. Wish we had a chance to see him prove me wrong in our colours!
