Gareth Bale

Re: Gareth Bale

I think we will be able to hold on to Bale for another season.
By then, we'd have to be serious title contenders and CL qualified if we want to keep him longer, IMO.

If there's a time we should really push on, this summer will be it. (it should have been this January, but that's a different story) We have a world class keeper in Lloris, there's Sandro who will hopefully recover 100% from his injury, and then there's Bale, who will be immense next season. Add Vertonghen/Kaboul and a top, top striker, and there's a great spine for a team - plus we have quality players all over the pitch in Lennon, Dembele, Vertonghen, Holtby, Dawson, BAE, etc.

It really boils down to improving our strikeforce first and foremost.

Hi guys, Not ITK.
My wife is from Cardiff. We go there every summer, to see family etc.
I have had a chance to meet with some of Bale's childhood friends.
They are still his friends and they get together regularly.
I have been told:
- he is a very family oriented guy, and would not like to go abroad.
- He is not like the "normal" megastars of football. Not a party animal, chasing WAGS, getting drunk etc.
- he has just had a child, and they think that makes it even more likely that he will stay in the UK.
- He loves being at Spurs and would like to stay here.
- He is not greedy about money, and is happy with what he is earning
- His parents have a lot of respect for Levy, and they get on very well.
Having said the above, I am sure he wants to win things
- If we / Levy are serious, we will NEED to do something in the summer.
- As Robbo says, We will have to get the missing links in our team to be title contenders.
- If we do that, I am sure he will stay - more than one more season
- If he does leave, it would be for a UK club

My 2 cents worth.

Re: Gareth Bale

It is all Levy's fault. World class players like Bale would want to fight for trophies every season. But we are not any closer to doing that. We could be challenging for league title now had he bought Moutinho and a top class striker in pre-season. But we cannot even guarantee Bale that we will challenge for league title next season.

Get a fudging grip

Re: Gareth Bale

Yea he hits like a down to earth kind of guy, and he HART Spurs and the supporters, and I think alot of that is that we and the club had faith in him before he broke the code.

Its crazy but I cant see him going this summer, even if we dont get CL.
If the club is going to try challange the title, No bloddy way Bale aint going to stay and try to do it!
If not hes still only 24 next summer.... and can go easly

Re: Gareth Bale

There are plenty of people saying that we're a couple of strikers from mounting a decent challenge for the league. IF we keep Bale. We need Levy and AVB to convince him of that during the summer.

He's on a long contract, he seems a level-headed bloke. I'd hope he recognises that he'd be better off playing for one of the world's great teams (Barca, Real, even ManUre) than signing for the money (Emirates Marketing Project, Chelscum, PSG).

Sure we can convince him that we are only a couple of players away but that is no good to him (or us), if that is perennially the case. The only thing that will persuade him to stay is if we buy said players

Re: Gareth Bale

the only thing that scares me is that we holded Modric one more year and told him that we had a plan with the team and we where going to buy players and challange the top spots, but it never happend. and we sold him.

Im sick of the club saying we was trying to get players in but it was no time. We could sign these players still and they would come the next window... Its only bull from the club, when thay say this and they dont try to get the players inn when the next window opens..

but then in that same vein of thought its all levy's fault that we are where we are in the first place...no?

Chelsea winning the Champions league was the difference between Modric stay and going. We met our goal and if we had got Champions league im sure Modric would have given us 1 more year and we would have strengthened the team to takes us to that next level but due to no CL Modric decided to leave and we then had a big hole to fill in midfield which then became the priority aswell as VDV leaving shortly after.

We had to do what was right for the team in that situation.

Re: Gareth Bale

Whenever people ask me if I think he'll be off I honestly don't know what to say. I kind of feel he has had the chance to leave before, and has chosen to stay. I genuinely think he appreciates the club and everything it has done for him so is in no rush to leave whatsoever. If we get Champions League then yes, I definitley believe he will be with us next season. If we don't, well i'm not sure. I thought he'd leave in the summer after we failed to qualify for this year

Re: Gareth Bale

i have no doubt it my mind Bale will be a Spurs player next season
Even if Bale decides he wants out, I somehow cannot see him doing a Modric to get his way.

Therefore it's all down to the iron will of the Chairman. If DL wants to keep him, he stays. If DL decides to cash in, he goes.

Re: Gareth Bale

IF we get CL and invest properly in our first team, I think Bale will stay. Not just for family reasons, but for his own quality of life - because he gets an enormous amount of respect and media attention here at a young club where he is really the only superstar, whereas I doubt he'd stand out as much at the megasigning-stuffed City or Chelsea or United (which are the only UK clubs that could afford him). At Spurs he is (rather rightfully these days) seen as a savior, and the occasional anonymous performance is usually ignored because we're not really expected to actually challenge for something big. At those other clubs there is an enormous microscope on each of their players that is constantly eagerly waiting for the chance to burn them, as Modric and Berbatov have found out.

We're an underdog that can still do something great, and turn great players into brilliant players. We're one of those clubs constantly looking forward, constantly looking to grow, running on hope and potential rather than the expectation of our predecessors; our trajectory is upward, the challenger, not the old king looking downwards, trying to maintain his stranglehold on power. In that sense I think we are actually a really ideal place for young players who are also striving to improve, to challenge themselves, to be able to experiment and make mistakes without being scalded for it.

Kamara said a lot of similar stuff on Goals on Sunday. Just maybe he's happy at Spurs and that's that.

Re: Gareth Bale

I dont have a doubt he will stay HOWEVER do I think he will sign a new contract? Not sure which will make up Levys mind to sell - does he maximise the returns by selling him when his clout is MASSIVELY high this summer? or risk getting a reduced value with two years running out?

Its not only about Bale its about Levy too

Levy to give him credit will only sell a player like Bale if forced to

I'm not concerned that Levy would force a move to cash in ...
