Garden - My Allotment.

Well done for getting a Allotment, i have a large veg garden, green house chickens etc etc and from about June till October we are self sufficient on veg and salad and chickens.

Think the main reason for the lack of response is that we thought this would be a reference to the state your lady friends never regions have become.

Think that thread would have started up a lot more interest and discussion amongst lads who've experienced similar mishaps.:)

Still though, good luck with the allotment!

So for those interested in knowing where we are at.. In around 3 weeks this is what has been achieved. See below the picture of how the plot looked and what it is now. Considering the weather I think I have made great strides. Just got an email from a local tree surgeon who has surplus wood chip and he has told me I can come and collect as much woodchip as I wish for FREE! Sweet!. But next job is getting the beds sorted with the borders in, which started today.

Well done! It can be a lot of work, but it always feels great to see the progress. I've had one for 5-6 years (flowers & herbs) and enjoy it a lot.

totally knocked the old cob webs of the old body that's for sure.

Things in the pipeline over the coming months.

Raised 3 tier strawberry bed
Polytunnel home made for fruits, chilli's, tomato's etc for all year round crops. (Currently looking at things to make it with)
Another Polytunnel which will covered in black sheeting in order to cultivate Mushrooms, but that will be summer months only unless I work a way of getting a 12v battery and heater to work in it.

Bought my seed potatoes today.

I know what you mean about the cobwebs. When I first got to mine, it was completely overrun with weeds and I spent 4-5 hours trying to get it to where I could begin planting. It had been a long time since I'd done that much physical work and it all but killed me.

I'm impressed with all your plans. Love to see how the strawberries, mushrooms, etc turn out. My folks always planted potatoes and they were always fun to dig up in the fall.

How much work is it on a day to day basis?

Spending two hours a day on mine because I need to get it to a level where I am happy with long-term regarding the whole set-up. More work now, less work in the future. In terms of weeding. Weekends I spend a little more time at the minute.

The first year in the beds will be totally experimental, mainly due to not knowing about the basics of the plot.. like sunlight and shades.

All my beds have loads of stones in them, don't mind small stones, big ones not so good. I slipped on my path today and to balance myself I took a step on one of the beds and my foot sunk over a foot lol, within 10 minutes that hole was full of water which tells you about how high the water table is right now. In order to sort the beds of stones and other unwanted obstructions I am thinkng of building a Trommel, but am not a electric motor guy who knows the first thing about sourcing pulleys and gear belts, which will become explained in the below video. All I thnk about is it does the job of 10 men lol Because of shortness of time, think I will do it after the first cropping.
