You can't take stories that have more pictures than words seriously.

The Standard hate Levy don't they (they are still banned from press conferences aren't they?)
I never buy the idea of newspapers hating or having it in for a club. It is just fan paranoia.

What is true is that the Standard has bugger all journalists now and most of the copy is lifted directly from the Independent which is why the have more coverage of clubs from the north west than they do London.

The Standard love a double page Chelsea spread at least twice in each 5 day week publishing run though

That fits the national agenda as much as the London one and they are still probably lifted from the Independent.

The Paul Scholes column really gets my goat. All they do is slightly change the headline between the two versions.

Can you imagine the Manchester Evening News running a weekly column by Ashley Cole writing about Chelsea and Arsenal?

Daily Mirror claim Badlini's position is under threat at Spurs as Paul Mitchell doesn't want to work under him.

Paul Mitchell needs to think long and hard about working for Levy.....if I were him I'd stay at Southampton

I think i saw him referenced to as Head of Player Recruitment - sounds like a DoF type to me.

Looks like he has done a good job at Southampton the past few years if so - the foreign players he has signed seem to have adapted to the league well and to their managers needs.

Unless he has any specific ties to Saints then id assume he'd see us as a step up - more money available/atteact a higher calibre of player.

More money available? Spurs generate funds by selling to buy. Pretty much the same as Southampton.

Didn't Southampton spend more than Spurs in the summer?

And Spurs generate more money than Southampton. Im not sure one summer is much of a sample size

I'd say that Southampton have quite a few players worth more on the market than Spurs do. Schneiderlin and Rodriguez alone will bring in 40-50 mill. Clyne, Tadic and Pelle are worth much more now than what they paid.

Most Spurs buys are now worth less than what we paid, Eriksen and Chadli the exception. Thus being the reason Mitchell is being headhunted

Yes that is one of the reasons he is being headhunted - but the rest is only one factor in how much money he will have available - new stadium in the offing which will raise revenue and give us money outside of what we generate from player sales to spend, for example and not to mention he can attract a higher calibre player and offer more wages (whilst earning a lot more himself)

The way Levy chomps his way through DoFs and managers there is very little chance Mitchell or whoever is appointed being here by the time the new stadium is built. Come on let's be serious )))

Arnesen = poached
Commoli = failed
Baldini = still here

Mitchell would no doubt have confidence in his own abilities and think he'd become a success.

I'm sure Mitchell is confident bloke, but it means very little in whether he is able to keep his job at Spurs for more than a couple of years.

Why did Commoli fail? He brought in Berbatov, Modric and Bale. 150 mill later into Spurs coffers, brilliant footballing moments in the memory, I think Commoli can be forgiven for the dud buys he also oversaw.

His failure to build a balanced squad which suited the needs of two seperate coaches outweighs his successes in the transfer market - he wasn't an outright failure as many seem to think but ultimately he didn't do the job well enough to keep his job.

He failed as he built a team that was heading for relegation till Redknapp came in and saved the day. As a talent scout he signed a couple of players who turned out well. I dare say I could do similar given the chance. The key is to make sure the team is competitive in the mean time and giving the manager you have helped choose the type of players he needs.

In fact one of the main positives of the director of football (that strangely is not said so much these days) was that if you changed managers you need not have a massive overhaul of the squad because the director of football would have chosen players that his desired coach would be able to coach.

Now it seems we are moving the goal posts to make previous directors of football and this one seem less cr*p at their jobs and turning them into just glorified chief scouts.

But he wasn't solely at fault for the poor start to the 2008-09 season. How about Levy waiting till the last seconds of the transfer window to sell Berbatov and thus leaving no time to spend the proceeds from the sale. Does Ramos not shoulder any blame for his strange tactics, team selections, poor motivation of the players?
