It took an 'absolute beast' of a day for Rio Ferdinand, including a four-hour medical, to finalise his £70,000-a-week deal with Queens Park Rangers.
Ferdinand reveals his day started at 11.30am in a hospital waiting room waiting for a late physiotherapist and finished just shy of 9pm in a video posted on the YouTube channel for his digital magazine #5.
'Fingers crossed we can get it signed sealed and delivered today,' Ferdinand said as he got into his car. 'Negotiations were yesterday (Wednesday), Harry (Redknapp) was brilliant.'
The outcome of those negotiations is a deal that isn't as much as the 35-year-old could have earned elsewhere, but gives him a chance at a 'fairytale' career ending.
'I got loads more offers from abroad, loads more money, sunnier climates, but just playing for Harry's a fairytale ending,' the former QPR junior said as he drove from the medical to Loftus Road.
Ferdinand says the medical dwarfed those of his previous transfers - 'West Ham to Leeds, that was quite an intense one, a couple of hours. The Manchester United one was an hour and a half. But we're there almost.'
In the end, the fighting fit 86kg former England star's move move to QPR was done and he was looking forward to the season opener against Hull City and especially round four at back at Old Trafford where he spent 12 trophy-laden years.
'What an absolute beast of a morning, or afternoon that was. Four hours doing a medical. Not even finished yet. Couldn't believe it,' he says.
But he's laid down his commitment to the QPR cause, which is to stay in the top flight after last season's play-off victory saw their Premier League return.
'This season's all about staying up,' he says. 'It's a different mentality, different mindset. I've always played to win trophies.

I thought he was an excellent pundit and generally came across really well during the world cup. Part of me thought we should have been in for him even though he's way past his best. Has a lot of knowledge to share.

It's all relative guys - Rio has done nothing worse than any of us complaining about working 60 hours per week to pay a mortgage and feed the kids when there's people in the third world who go 3 days without food, who would consider the latter to be a life of luxury.

"In Germany and the Netherlands a youth coach can earn £40,000 a year. It's a profession. In England the equivalent pay is £16,000. That's a hobby"
