Right now, I see our First Team as:
-------------------Lloris---------------------
Walker---Kaboul---Vertonghen---
Assou-Ekotto
----Paulinho------Sandro------Dembele-------
------Bale--------Soldado--------Chadli------
Subs: Friedel, Naughton, Dawson, Capoue, Lennon, Sigurdsson, Defoe.
Looking at the current OS "
First Team" page (i.e. excluding players like Fryers who may or may not be in AVB's first team plans this year), this gives us a pool of players to cover injuries / rotation:
Gomes, Rose, Carroll,
Parker, Holtby, Townsend,
Adebayor.
(players in
bold are those who have been heavily linked with a move away from Spurs. Even if only a couple of those happen (e.g. Parker and Gomes look odds-on to leave) we're left with questionable squad depth in my view. Luckily AVB has said that we've not finished bringing in new players, so hopefully we'll fix that). But overall I'd say we've improved quite a bit this summer and so long as the players gel quickly and we address the "strength in depth" issue, we have a realistic chance of being title challengers this year (or at the very least comfortably beating Arsenal to top three/four).
Just think, if half the rumours are true - and if we keep Bale - then we could end the summer with:
-------------------Lloris---------------------
Walker---Kaboul---Vertonghen---Coentrao
----Paulinho------Sandro------Dembele-------
------Bale--------Soldado------Lamela-------
Subs: Friedel, Naughton, Dawson, Capoue, Chadli, Sigurdsson, Defoe.
Depth:
Archer, Rose, Chiriches, Carroll, Lennon, Holtby, Halilovic.
(hmmm... could maybe use a new goalkeeper...?)
