First ever penalty after use of video

Ronaldo scored in the last second. It was a tight call whether it was offside.

The ref asked for video evidence. It showed he was onside, and the goal was given.

As Ronaldo walks off the pitch he laughs and says "the television doesn't work, eh?"

This is strange... it did work. The ref checked and allowed the goal. Exactly how it should be used.

Maybe Ronaldo meant it took too long or something, the video/article is not clear exactly.

or he was being ironic, a pointed comment at those who say it doesn't?

I think they're doing it wrong, as soon as it becomes apparent the referee wants to see a replay they should start playing subliminal heartbeat music, and once the referee had made his decision he should turn back to face the players and there should be an announcement along the lines of.. 'and the video replay decision, brought to you by budweiser, is........' and then even more subliminal heart beat music and a wait of 5-10 seconds to proper ramp the suspense up until he points to the spot.

Or just have someone in a room in the stadium who can radio the ref and bring back play if the referee has missed something.

This is exactly what will happen. By 2020 the video refs will have their own entrance music and video X Factor style.

We should go down the route of the overhyped NFL, with cheerleaders, and college bands every time there is a stoppage. If they can turn a 60 minute game into a 3 hours one we should be able to make it at least a 4 hour one.

How will this work, people say the Middlesboro appeal for a pen against Leics was and wasnt and that ex players, so what do you do in that case?

The ref makes a decision. If he's not sure, he doesn't give it. Or is there some magic that happens when you're prevented from examining video of something that I'm missing?

So on the basis the ref gives the pen or does not where is the need for Video Tech?
