Find it surprising that not many media are reporting about this tournament. It used to be a very prestigious tournament that gave the world players like Maradona, Henry, Aguero and Messi.

Not surprisingly, Argentina are the most successfull team with 6 trophies, followed by Brazil with 5 wins.

This tournament used to produce world stars without fail before. The likes of Maradona(1979), Boban(1987), Adriano(1993), Henry(1997), Owen(1997), Aimar(1997), Saviola(2001), Messi(2005) and Aguero(2007) all made names from this tournament. But I think since 2007, this tournament is no longer producing many big name players now.

Yes, I think so. You can't have too many levels if you want the best side at U21. You want the best U19 progressing to the U21s so they are embedded in the team by the next tournament. You might even take the best U19 players out while still eligible and put them in the U21 if that is the focus.

Isn't this a fairly natural result of what is probably a fairly high variance tournament with relatively small player pools to choose from?

Sure Argentina had a fantastic run there for a few years, but that could just as easily be a bit of an anomaly. In between their wins in 1997 and 2001 they were knocked out in the second round 1999. Not all that different to now going out in the group stages...

Really? First of all you have the benefit of hindsight to pick out players that went on to become fantastic quite a while after the tournament. And Aimar and Saviola, whilst fantastic players on their day, were hardly world stars. I think most people think they failed to fulfill their initial promise.

Looking only at the 3 players ranked in the player of the tournament and 3 in the golden boot awards the last two tournaments have included Alexandre Lacazette and Paul Pogba as influential players. I wouldn't be surprised if those two end up having significantly better careers than Aimar and Saviola. Looking further just at the goalscorers involved in the 2011 tournaments we've seen Koke, Isco, Willian, Lamela, James Rodriguez and Griezmann. I'm guessing if I went looking at the squads to not only look at goalscorers more names would stand out.

Well done to Serbia for winning the U-20 World Cup ! They beat Brazil 2-1 after extra time in the Final. Never thought Serbia could go all the way to win it, especially by beating Brazil in the Final. Really delighted for Serbia !

This is Serbia's first ever trophy as a nation even though they have won the 1987 U-20 WC (alias World Youth Cup) as Yugoslavia. The old Yugoslavia used to be one of my favourite teams. They were used to be called "the Brazil of Europe" due to their attractive style of play. But they rarely gave their best in international tournaments especially World Cup. But just when they looked like putting up a strong team in the 1990s, they broke up. Remember how they were banned from Euro 1992 and Denmark who replaced them went all the way to win it ! Have never forgiven Croatia's part in the break up of Yugoslavia.

It is a pity that Serbia are still struggling to put up a decent national team. Hope the U-20 WC victory will boost their national team.

As for the U-20 World Cup, it is disappointing that not many outstanding players emerged from this tournament. Unlike in the past, I think the major nations like Argentina and Brazil are no longer treating this tournament seriously. I think most of their best youngsters didn't play in the WC this time.

The Tottenham Hotspur youngster enjoyed under-20 World Cup success but what did Spurs fans think of his contribution?

Tottenham Hotspur youngster Milos Veljkovic has already had a summer to remember, after his Serbia side won the Under-20 World Cup with a 2-1 victory in the final against Brazil in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Veljkovic has been an ever-present for Serbia’s young side in the competition and he proved vital again as he helped restrict Brazil to a single goal, scored by Manchester United’s Andreas Pereira.

The 19-year-old can play as either a centre-back or a defensive midfielder and his versatility means he could ultimately become a vital player for Tottenham.

Last season he spent loan spells at Championship sides Middlesbrough and Charlton Athletic but injury robbed him of the chance to play as many matches as he would have hoped.

However, following his latest success there could well be a number of clubs desperate to give him game-time next season, and it will be up to Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino to decide how best to continue his fledgling career.

I quite liked the look of the Serbian captain and goal keeper. Athletic and he made some fine saves in the final. The Brazilian keeper looked to be handy too.
