Not a bad idea. 4-5 matches concentrated into late May and early June of odd years. It will clash with the cricket world cup every other time and the Lions tour the other one, but the majority of the footballing world isn't the Anglosphere.
 
I personally don't give a fart about the development of football outside Europe or appeasement of FIFA voting members, I just want to see the premier tournament to have top quality games and I believe having 30 odd games in the finals will mean a better chance of seeing good games rather than playing almost 80 games.

I've always thought this, and I think it would lead to a better standard of international football as well.
I'd also have a second tier tournament, so it's possible for Faroe Islands/Gibraltar/Scotland etc. to actually win something - the finalists would then also get promotion to the first tier. And I'd do the same for European club tournaments.

Eventually it will get to all 200 (or whatever) countries in the World Cup Finals, so we can do away with qualifying and just have a straight knockout in June for every country.

Might as well do this. Have the top 132 in the rankings in a straight knock out.

Seed it from 1st to last via FIFA ranking and have it like a tennis draw where the top seed plays the bottom seed, 2nd seed plays second bottom and so on....

But where is the chance to make more money and appease all the Asian teams who would never get to the latter stages?

It's rich when you see so many Englishmen laughing at the demise of Scots football talent when you see whats happening in the English league. I think it's terrible that the rich vein of world class players coming out of Scotland appears to have stopped.

I agree, the likes of Gilly, Archi, Baxter, etc etc were the top of the tree.

And then complain at the start of every season because player x looks tired from international duty EVERY season rather than every other :)

Why would they be more tired?

The idea is to remove the internationals that regularly interrupt the club season and put them in a block at the end of the season. Dates would be shifted, but the number of games not changed. Moreover, with the expansion of the Euros and planned expansion of the world cup, the amount of necessary qualifiers is reduced, so the total international football and the burden on the players could also be reduced.
 
Unfortunately nobody is concerned with English football, we already have an overloaded fixture list with League, League Cup, FA Cup, Champions League, Europa Cup and Internationals. Clubs with massive finance and large squads can just about cope, the rest struggle. Any sensible organisation would look to reduce the number of games like scrapping the League Cup, but that wont happen. The whole idea of increasing the number of teams is not about improving the standard of the game worldwide, it's to allow countries with a lot of money but rubbish teams get to the finals and please their millions of tv fans. I'm sure the football aficionados will be salivating about watching India v Austria but my world will be a lot better place without it.
 
I know exactly where I was for each of the world cups going back to 1982, the first one i vaguely remember, this new format is ridiculous but more matches is more revenue for the most corrupt organization on the planet and there i was thinking, getting rid of blatter would mean changes for the better, more fool me.

I think the benefit of the league cup is that it concludes before the business end of the proper tournaments

why not free the european qualifiers from the burden of the fa cup
 
48 teams in the World Cup now :D . Clearly FIFA did not watch the total garbage, watered down Euros where a team that didn't win a single group game went on to win the tournament. Bunch of corrupt old dinosaurs, they will never change.

I think this it is a UEFFA rule that we are not allowed to play games that clash with Europe. Can't make the change.
