This single sentence should get your wheels spinning Chich...yes. The ethics, morals and fortitude of the English people are all massive corner stones in who we are/were. And that certainly includes the work ethic.
So answer me this...when our economy got switched from manufacturing and production to financial, did you not also notice a shift in society's 'work ethic'? I think it's fair to say that the devastating combination of
declining education
greed
a growing culture of entitlement based on the disproportionate wealth of a few
people wanting more 'things' cheaper has led to where we are.
We are delighted to keep prices cheap, and much of the reason they remain that way is because of cheap foreign labour. And wheras we once had a willing and able workforce, one which happily accepted itself, we now have a generation or two who all believe they 'deserve' big paychecks and loadsamoney, a generation who are not prepared to out in a shift and work hard as youths to build the platform for a productive, earnest future.
There are certainly problems all round, but I believe the idea that immigration is solely to blame is false. It might well be 'a' factor, but there are far, far greater factors at work right now than just that.
This is a fight for decency over vulgarity IMO.
I believe that we all agree on the sanctity of what we believe are British values. Sadly, I think too many people lack a deep understanding of what those are.
...in the spirit of discussion and debate mate.
Well there is a lot to go on there steff, i am going out in a minute but shall be back again tomorrow. I will try to answer briefly now and more later.
If your talking about the 80's yes i noticed that with the city getting more power a lot in this country seemed to become obessed with the loads of money culture. Though it was also a time when people could work themselves out of a lower class.
Manufacturing was hurt massively by my idol maggie but manufacturing actually decreased by a larger amount under labour 97-08. It is something we need to reverse.
Hi-tech manufacturing is actually on the increase in places like Cambridge and we really need to link up our universities to employment more. But both recent governements could have done more in attracting manufacturing jobs. Including allowing companies to go into schools not just colleges and help design subjects with a career in manufacturing in mind.
On immigration, i do nto blame immigration on all of this countries problems, why do the left always say this i would love to know?????
Immigration is not to blame for all of this countries problems and i have never said it has. It has now gotten far to much and needs to be controlled but we still need highly skilled immigrants. My shares in Riccardo would be wirth brick without the talented staff it recruits from all over the world.
But we do not need low skilled immigrants when we have so many unemployed here, British workers who are lazy and do not believe they should have to work. I believe most are good and want to work but we have rewarded some for not working and under labour it was easier for them to go and get foreign workers rather then make their core vote go out and work. It is a problem that started under labour.
I am best friends with a latvian, when my father was in hospital the english doctor and english nurse were nice enough but the little asian nurse pipped up at one point and said should he be on these painkillers when he has only one kidney. I later brough her a bowl of fruit and gave her a hug. I believe she saved my fathers life. I use this as an example of how i know immigrants are decent hard working people, but the current levels are unaffordable.
But we are now in a position where it is more expensive to train nurses then bring them in from abroad. Can that be right? check newsnow for the story mate.
The NHS and the disgusting pathway which i know of a guy who had parkisnons was put on in Brighton General is a completely another matter and the NHS deserves its on thread.
I enjoy the discussion steff, you and hootnow and milo are what i call good communists. But im out to take the family for dinner and we are meeting some investors so fingers crossed.
