I didn't say that the Argies damaged it. I said that the bombs missed the runway (IIRC they bombed it at an angle and bracketed the actual tarmac strip) so the Argies put a load of fake craters on it and continued to land hercs and pucaras on it, as and when they needed to. Until they lost half their hercs (they had 2) and most of their pucaras.

The fake craters were to make the RAF believe that they had succeeded, to stop them coming back and doing it again. Which they couldn't.

I think in reality, the best thing would have been to have crashed the Vulcans on the runway, just to annoy the Argies.

Plus I was there, and thats what I was told, after the hostilities had ended.
