About the "try to push thorugh" part, a person close to me playing top-tier football had an small issue with a knee, and team doctors primary goal was to have it heal without surgery, and their reason was that cutting you open and doing the surgery is a one way door that could cause you more issues down the road. Could be a similar guidence from the team doctors in this case

I always thought from the beginning this was one of those really long-term injuries that the club and Frank weren't being very truthful about....

Only a few weeks ago it was "not far away" etc...oh well..

The club have to make decisions on what they do and don’t share with fans but this one has been a mess

Yeah I’d rather the club just be honest and say it’s a long term injury. If they genuinely don’t know then fair enough. Much rather they under promise and over deliver than say he’ll be back soon. And I do get that sometimes players have setbacks when it comes to injuries and the subsequent recovery.
