Watched a good analysis of his heat map when we signed him and how he would have suited this system really well. It was pretty much all around the 6 yard box, penalty area and really attacking. TBF he has scored the goals I would expect, but we arent giving him enough of the service he deserves or requires and hes doing too much himself. He's a poacher and rarely scores outside the box apparently, so we should be feeding him more.
I was a bit harsh on him calling him a Darren Bent the other day, hold my hands up on that. But I dont think him coming deep and holding the ball up is what we want from him, as much as its a good skill set to have obviously. That said he has done better than some have thought he would this far into the season. I just feel that we are knackering him out and we could have done with another backup forward (not Richarlison as he's never going to be fully fit). Would Veliz have not been a good option to keep?
But that's how we play him
- We use him as a forward press (he's really good at it)
- We use him as a pivot (often deep) that the wingers and 8's (Deki) play around, run beyond
- And yes, we are running him into the ground
To me, Spence is the only player (we have seen it twice), who plays a ball specifically for Solanke to run on to (vs. just crosses to anyone in box)
Re your question on Veliz, he may be back (talk about us recalling as he isn't getting enough game time)
