Of course. I feel like it’s easier to enjoy a spectacle if you are not emotionally invested in it.
So in a boxing match, an open tear up with lots of attacking endeavour with open defence can be great.
If it was someone you loved you would like them to win as one sidedly as possible.
This may mean winning on points without taking unnecessary risks by over committing.

I guess what I am saying is the entertainment side of the game is for the neutral, especially as so many of us are irrationally emotionally invested in the outcome. Of course you can be pacified by a defeat if you have been the better side, on the proviso that continued performances showdown merit more wins in the future, but it’s still a defeat and if it happens regularly you have to question the definition of the better side if it’s one that isn’t actually winning the game.

ps don’t let @Bedfordspurs know you like Leicester I think Brenton has done something to upset him!
 
In an extremely competitive league it's hard to produce attractive football and get result week in week out, PL is not like most leagues in Europe where there is plenty of cannon fodder to practice against. I desperately want us to win a big trophy but equally want to be excited by our play. When you think of Tottenham you remember the great forwards and creative players I wouldn't want us to be a team who play ugly football and bend the rules. I suppose that's why I like Dele he tries things others never think of or see.

why do I think that I am a better football fan than the rest of you expect us to batter the teams that sit lower in the table every game. Are you saying performances are good?

My (that's mine not anyone else's in the thread) view was that results are good, performances are not so. I think that's not outrageous considering the players we have to choose from and are able to field compared to our opponents.

If you are suggesting it's the same task to defend against (insert name of whomever plays up front for) West Brom as it would be City, Liverpool? As my point is, it isn't, hence defending is easier, so defensive performance and limiting chances is likely to be better.

If you think it's a big leap to draw when you are 0-0 with five minutes left or 10 mins from going out of the EL, I suggest Betfair In-play might suggest otherwise. That's why I say it's a thin line. I get it's early days this season (and FWIW I sympathise completely with what Jose had to deal with last season, we just had to get thru it) I want to see signs where we start to look a collective force.

Bringing other teams into it (Liverpool) adds nothing to who we are, where we are and where we are going.

I just think comparing any teams in this league right now doesn’t work
COVID has had a mega impact that’s unquantifiable and add in more and more games for the bigger sides and it can quickly become an equaliser
We have played 3 teams that have defended deep off the back of European games. The teams we have Panter haven’t had mid week games and that’s showed with their increased effort. It’s also shown up the lack of actual quality they have as we have won those games with better finishing and chance creation.

The games were quite comfortable in reality and it doesn’t matter when we score does it? I’d argue the later the better as it stops teams from changing tactics to come back into the game which we have seen first hand twice.

pool and city will leave space for us to attack but will also create more I’m sure than the teams we have just played. It will the fall down to who takes their chances which is something we have been very good at

So I’d say the performances have been much much better than people think because people are ignoring the results and outcome of our play and focusing on the fact we didn’t batter them. I mean what else is a deciding factor or what’s good or not?

I agree this season is topsy turvy (which actually works in our favour if it brings Liverpool and City back to the pack).

I don't think the team's we have played have defended deep, not in the traditional park the bus sense (perhaps Burnley but maybe they're just super organised numbers and position wise), West Brom and certainly Brighton and Antwerp had plenty of the ball. As you say they don't have the clinical players at the top end to make it count.

Of course you're right it's a results business, but performance counts for a lot of fans.(and for most that is attractive football) Even the sense that something is growing, taking shape can be exciting. We were all buzzing after the Southampton and United wins and I'm not sure if the last games have been a response to the shell shock of the West Ham game?.

The holy grail is great results and great to watch, which is possible, as I'm sure Liverpool and City fans have enjoyed when they've won the league.

Jose won the EL and League Cup at United but I bet their fans would be split over their thoughts on his tenure there. Of course, they have been spoilt and their expectations are higher, we don't have that luxury, so exceptance now that first and foremost the result is king would be stupid to push back on.

We nearly had the holy grail of silverware and a great team, and that team didn't 'batter' opponents every week....but was probably true to the blanchflower and bill nick quotes, and as Spurs fans that how we see things.

Fwiw I think i don't think it's impossible for Jose to create a winning and entertaining team, he has a great foundation of players to build on.

We have seen winning and entertainment already this season
And IMO all 3 teams we have just beaten played deep. Not park the bus (well burnley had 2 banks of 4). But none of them left a flat defensive line and did their defensive job really well. Brighton who arguably played the best of the 3 didnt even start with a striker.
The teams we have battered either played kamikaze high lines or just made lots of basic errors. We now have varying ways to win and that’s massively important.

I understand your point and can not really disagree with it, however i feel a lot of fans are failing to realize( not suggesting that you are one of them) that we have had a big turn over of players and some of them are still trying to bed into the team and the managers instructions.

It was always going to be a big job to take a team that 12 months ago looked shot and some of the players were no longer either up to it or failing to put what was needed in. Since then we have had a change of manager and a lot of new arrivals to the playing staff and as the old saying goes " Rome was not built in a day" :D . Considering the work that has been needed to turn us around it is great to see us in second place, of course there is still work to be done but we have to have patience ( and i know that is not easy for any fan).
 
Dele has been working really hard. You have to admire how he’s grafting now he’s fallen down the pecking order. Look at his social media. Got a gift from PlayStation and unveiled a new line of baseball caps (@scaramanga , I bought one for you that will match the tattoo you get with the voucher I bought from InkWorld in Islington).

Those shots are good, with both feet, but were the keepers drunk or paid off?
