Davinson Sanchez

But the point is we don't want him to alter formation because the squad isn't big enough to accommodate who he wants to play. Fair enough if players are injured etc but we need enough players to cover the number of games we're playing. If we play 3 at the back for say 40 games this season then 20 games with 2 CBs then that's 160 games in total. 3 CB's can't cover that, I'd be much more comfortable having 4. CCV I guess could be the 4th one but I don't know enough about him.

I'm sure Verts usually gets an injury every year and Toby missed 6/7 games last year.

I really think this move heralds a more permanent switch to 3-5-2.

Trippiers promotion to #1 suits it perfectly, he is superb going forward (way better than Walker) and this covers him defensively (where he isnt bad, but Walker was superior).

Followed up with interest in Sessegnon, who would be ideal on the left side of that set up.

............................Kane
....................Alli..............Eriksen
Sessegnon.........Dembele.......Wanyama......Trippier
.........Vertonghen.....Alderweireld.....Sanchez
...........................Lloris

Something like this could be incredible.

...Which will see Dier off to United. He won't want to be a bit-part player in a WC year. But will José still be sniffing now he has his poster boy Matic?

And should we cash in on Dier, do the nerves start to wobble on keeping best friend Alli for much past 2018/19?

i think there's room enough for Dier and Sanchez - there's also the possibility that we move Dier in to CM alongside Wanyama more often if Dembele remains unreliable due to fitness/injuries.

if we get this right and we put together a squad strong enough to battle on all four fronts and we start picking up cup competition wins alongside competing for the title and doing well in the CL then we're not going to be a club players look to leave

I would be OK with that, providing that we get Martial in return.

I think he meant more in general, as in "within the squad", as in they would all see plenty of games.

That said, we would certainly have the option to Pulis the hell out of some teams :p

bit of both - Wanyama has certainly provided some of the attributes that Dembele provides imo and i think given time a Dier Wanyama partnership could work just as well

Im not sure Id go that far!

Wanyama is a brick wall, and surprisingly not a bad footballer as well, but Id never see him as offering anything like Dembele on more than an occasional (once in a blue moon) basis.

Dier is much more of a 'footballer' and even he wouldnt really do it either.

The only way Id put them two together would be as @Ade's folks are ok really pointed and we needed an ultra hard to beat set up.

Or, possibly, if we elect to play a total lightweight in front of them.
