@DubaiSpur the salt in the Villa thread was hilarious .. thanks
I think you have to look at Levy across two measurables
- Financially improving the position of the club, revenue streams, getting us established (arguably could be said Spurs created the top 6 concept, was Sky 4 before) in the top group in PL and most importantly securing long term future of the club = without doubt, an unqualified success, (look at Swiss ramblings view in financials thread), we have basically closed the gap on the Scum with revenue, and are a lot closer to Pool, Chelsea than those behind are to us. I'd argue probably only United has improved the revenue position in anything like what we have in last 5 years (City/Chelsea still dependent on money doping). Will be a historical figure for the club's history at some point.
- On field results, this is the question with controversy. Has he improved on field result, given us a top level team that the best 11 can beat almost any side in the world on a given day? = absolutely, 12 European campaigns for a club that had been out of Europe for decades. The argument is, could we have done better? with a little more bravery/risk, would they have been a cup or two more, a CL campaign or two more? a title even?
The second one will never be answered, it's speculation, and I guess my view is does it matter? in another 18 years (time from start of stadium project) if the stadium does allow us to push on (even if we need to wait a few years, maybe a different squad/manager) and we achieve that success, will we still rue that moment where it could have been a little bit more, a little bit better?
Villa, Leeds, Saudi Sportswashing Machine and others show what could have been if he didn't get the first part right ...
