Cycling thread

Everyone seems to be forgetting about Valverde. He'll be riding so well in the last week after his rest day blood bag. He has a much better chance of beating Nibali than Porte.

would like to see if one of the young Americans can do something, not had an American winner since Greg Lemond.

Is Nibali one of them?

Have they caught many this tour/season compared to previous years?

Nibali has been rumoured to be using Armstrong's doctor Ferrari. His performances have improved ridiculously in the last two seasons when he's joined Astana, a team banned from the 2008 tour because of blood doping, who have had high profile dopers like Armstrong, Contador and Vinokourov as team leader. Astana can afford (Kazak oil money) to put him on a better doping program than what he was on before.

Ultimately you can microdose EPO without an EPO test picking it up.
The main weapon is the overhyped Bio passport. This builds up a profile a riders blood values over a few year and is supposed to pick up anomalies.
But the test is subjective. Its not either positive or negative. A panel have to agree.

Ultimately its give riders a blood value target to stay within. They know they can dope up to a level and never be caught by the passport.
Also the test done at altitude produce anomalies. So we end up with riders doing training camps at altitude knowing any test done can be discarded on the passport. We have the testers not bothering turning up in Tenerife where Contador and Froome were both training for months earlier in the year.

Surely the passport is the way to go as irregularities become harder to explain over time?

I think Nibali's career progression is expected, I wouldn't say he's improved off the curve in the last 2 years, he won the Vuelta in 2010 for a start. He had a lot of success as a junior as well.

Was on Ditchling Beacon yesterday for the tour of Britain coming through had done a 30 mile ride before as some of the roads were nice and quiet for us. Got some good shots of the cyclists coming up the hill, could see myself taking up photography one day.

Think I will go for Kittel today but would love Cavendish to do something special in London. Nice seeing some good young English guys coming through.

Wiggins has turned up today.
Where did this form come form?
I've my standard bet on Martin in any timetrial but its gonna be way closer between them than I thought it would be.
