Cycling thread

Sounds like Wiggins was hoping Froome would be injured or out of form for the Tour because he is now saying that despite being in the same form as when he won 2 years ago he probably won't enter this year because the team is backing Froome.

I know he is a bit of legend for everything he has won but he's coming off as a bit of d**k lately. He mentions leaving Sky when his contract expires at the end of the year so he can go to another team and be the no.1 for next year.. Surely he must know that the chances of him winning again are very slim.

I dunno, I think he could win another over the right route, would be great to see him take on Froome in another team

He should focus on the classics and then the road race at Rio.

Or if he had any balls work like a bitch for the Giro seeing as a lot of the top stars give it a miss he could do a good show there.

I think I may have actually gone and lost the plot because last night I put £500 down on boasson hagen winning the points jersey in the Giro. Starts Friday in Ireland and I am going to have a nervous 4 weeks now.

Never bet drunk ](*,)

I've just seen this now. Boasson Hagen has been ruined by Sky.

Speaking of ****ed up bets. I was looking at the odds for todays stage and Froome was 20/1 to take a flat prologue. He's never won a flat timetrial in his life and this is a short one. I half fancied him at those odds. Who knows what Froome's "preparation" is for the Tour.

And he's just romped home now the winner at 20/1. Froome's improvement as a cyclist is just ridiculous.

More and more he reminds me of Armstrong. Wiggins you could see he had his tour win tactically and that he was clean, I have my doubts on Froome. I am giving up betting on cycling till the worlds.

I might do a bet on Kittel for the London stage of the Tour, I shall be down there watching it, I love cav but if Kittel wins at least I make some money.

The gap from Froome to 2nd is the same as the gap from 2nd to 20th. That's how much better he was on a stage that shouldn't suit his tiny frame. That's pretty shocking. The one thing he doesn't have at the moment is a decent team around him. The rest of Sky are a mess this season. Contador's team's is much stronger.

I was at the finish of the Dublin stage of the Giro that Kittel won and His sprint was unbelievable coming from way back to win it.
I'm worried for Cav if he doesn't win that stage that he's been aiming for all year will be able to do much else in the Tour?

There are a couple of stages which could split the field with a cross wind and Omega are good at racing in cross winds, so they could set cav up for a sprint. Cavs acceleration is still good enough to win sprints. But because sprinting has changed he can not do it from so far out. Kittels team will power him so fast to the line that omega need to place cav closer to the line for him to be able to finish it off.

Kittel is a different kind of sprinter to cav and can do it from further out, cavs genius was always in his ability to race at a high speed and then sprint on top of that high speed. Omega need to get the train in order for cav to still win sprints.

But this any maybe next year will be the last seasons cav can genuinely out sprint kittel or beat him on the flat. After that he will have to hunt for stage wins like McEwan did when he got into his 30's. He could with increased strength as he gets older but less top speed sprinting change and look at other events.

I expect cav to pick up a couple of stages but as argos(kittels team) are stronger I think he will win the most stages and cav will settle for a couple of stage wins for the next two seasons.

Then with his hang up on the Olympics I can see him going back to his track roots and trying to get a gold in Brazil. A lot will depend on how focused cav remains.

Missed out on a few by a couple of quid but finally picked up a classic racer on ebay, Peugeot Clubman, its bloody lovely, in great nick and it only cost me £90. It's so nice it might actually defeat its original purpose of being ok to lock up outside work all day. I swear the guy I bought it off had a tear in his eye as I wheeled it away, he wanted to make sure I wasn't converting it to a fixie.

Nice

Voigt never won enough, Zabel was a massive drugs cheat will give you Cancellara though great cyclist he is. I just love Martin, he needs to win some world championships though.

Jensie too ;)

Anyway There isnt gonna be single English rider at the Tour de France starting in England.
So much for dominating cycling.

shame about Millar, dowsett might make it still (unless I've missed something?)

plenty of Brits though with Thomas, Cav and Froome of course

I think sky have made a big mistake with their management of wiggo over the last year,

I know nothing about cycling but why doesnt Wiggins just leave Sky? Surely they can't rate him that highly. I'm assuming pay is one factor and perhaps another team might not want to take him on and make him no 1 at his age?

He has lost his motivation think he just wants to be famous now. He could quite easily win a few classics if he wanted but does not seem to want to put in the leg work. He is still talking about the Rio Olympics as is cav so maybe he will do something there.

Dowsett was a big loss to this tour was looking forward to watching him.

This time next week I shall be in London getting drunk on a cav victory, if he does not win then no one on this board shall see me for months because my depression will reach such depths.

I shall be there too really look forward to it will be at the final time trial as well in perigeux at the end of the month can't wait tbh.
