Why do so many people hate him so?

People often confuse hate with thinking a player is overrated or simply not worth the fees.

He never was a 100M+ player and has made minimal impact in a team that sleepwalks to victory in 60% of their games a season.

In reality a good player in the right system, not the kind of player that grabs games by the scruff of the neck, nor truly top level.

Because he’s not very good, watch his highlight reel and you’ll see plenty of long range screamers but not the 400 shots between each that went miles high or wide. He turns the ball over pretty much every time he gets it.

To be honest, I only remember him at Inter, I was surprised the dippers were so excited by him based on his numbers there. I was amazed that Barca paid so much for him, I’m horrified that we are considering him.

Yeah, he put up decent stats at Liverpool. To be honest 21 goals in 75 games in Barca teams with Messi and Suarez isn't too shabby either. I'm guessing bindipper bias clouded their view of him.
