Coronavirus

I think the random nature of a pandemic makes fools of everyone, the government got things majorly wrong but then again so did people on here with some of their POVs they used to complain with which proves the point. People want lockdown, people don’t, people read semi expert advise on twitter and it makes them doctors etc.

The Spain issue is laughable, people want to be safe the quarantine? What’s odd with that is that Spain are having to take internal measures because of spread, so why should we not react? People use New Zealand as a case study for their benchmark do you think they would allow people from Spain in without restrictions after fighting the battle?

You read Daily how the whole world is having its own issues, no one is having it off scott free like people first thought.

Even those in a good place now have to roll the dice on things soon enough to revive their economies, this is far from over

people that use NZ as the bench mark are idiots - how do they get out of it?

waiting for a vaccine isn’t the answer

all NZ has done is delay like Australia have done.

Our government got just about everything wrong for a few months in dealing with this pandemic. It’s good to see them acting more decisively now, although their messaging remains pretty awful. They’ll need to get on top of this - it’s highly likely things will escalate again once schools return and the winter arrives. People will need clear grown-up data and advice at that point.

It’s still all rubbish though.

Ok to go to work on tube? Yes

Ok to have a wedding with 30 people you know and can track with ease? No

the whole trade off with pubs for schools is also rubbish, how are they even a balancing act?

I say that as someone that goes to a pub 2/3 time’s a year max.

Which the states have bought up a majority of, nor is it a silver bullet.

that’s also not what NZ are doing.

It's a by-product of delaying/supressing widespread infection - it buys time for more effective treatments to become available.

It's already happened. Hopefully it will continue to happen. New Zealand will be far better placed to deal with a spike now than it would have been in March.

For me, that’s what lockdown was largely about. It bought time to develop knowledge and treatments which would save more lives of those who become seriously ill. That’s now happening. It also gave us four months to get on with developing a vaccine.

Interesting, his area of expertise isn’t necessarily one in which he is important in terms of lockdown and virus spread but on the flip and looking at his profile it seems he may be wanting to avoid home drinking? Maybe? That’s genuine interest.

I’m actually really interested in the development of this Pubs v School trade off thats bubbling. On the face of it surely its a no brained? Kids go to school, education is key, family’s can maybe attempt to go to work?

OR

Pubs do better to police the rules And there is no trade off? I walked past a fair few today which were mad busy. Surely that’s on the pubs to police like the smoking ban is? I have this theory that a fair few pubs are smash and grabbing the cash as they can before either a lockdown or a clip on the wrists

a friend in the north-west who is currently calling the government from pigs to dogs because they inconvenience him...
much of what I read and hear seems to fall into that category.

Empty vessels scweaming and moaning will always make noise. The far few% extremists scweaming (from the far left/right/up/down/inside/outside) whilst the middle 95% majority actually think something is fine.

NB - seems like Covid is affecting Asian populations to a greater degree, whether that is from biological reasons or multi-generational households, hence (reading between the lines) the Government trying to protect them by saying "don't mix households" and "oh you can go to the pub but that is mostly non-Asians".

I heard on news Aus have announced a state disaster and Iran have been lying about their numbers.

Australia’s idea of a disaster seems to be very different to ours.

As for lying about numbers, I don’t think our government is in any position to point fingers on that one.

Wasn’t a comparison just saying what was on the news.

According to the reports Iran are near on 50,000 deaths, not sure what they are reporting

If and when we ever get to a point where the truth outs regarding numbers, my money will be on our government's 'official' numbers being closer to reality than almost any other country...
