Coronavirus

So you would have protected all the vulnerable and everyone in their bubbles? Kept all those who Co habit and are in contact with the vulnerable. All the diabetics. All those on immuno suppressors. That's millions of people locked in doors while we waited for the vaccine. I for a period thought it was possible but I've accepted it never was. The cheapest and most effective way to handle it would have been zero Covid. I'm stunned you can't admit that now.
Keeping some locked up at home is better than all.

It also carries the important distinction of allowing us to make our own risk judgements. Those who are at risk but would rather live can, just as those who aren't at risk but are scared can stay indoors.

The Gov are useless what ever side on the fence you sit

but sage advice was it doesn’t make any difference

just like they are backing the 1 shot and delay programme which everyone else is screaming no at.

I can't understand how Sage came to that conclusion, surely more people coming into the country infected with no restrictions means more infections which means more deaths. Even if infected people went straight home after landing then if at Heathrow they'd likely get on the tube and infect a few people on the way back.

More embarassing is they've been outsmarted by Patel, of all the decisions one of the dumbest must surely be letting thousands of infected people fly into the country with no restrictions at all.

Not intending to rake over old ground, but wasn't that advice from sage given later on once the virus was already running rampant across the country - at that point they said closing the borders would not have any meaningful effect on the spread. But had they been shut earlier, who knows... (Priti seemingly did).

"The govt are brick for making their own decisions, they should follow the science"

i would have loved to have seen Boris’s face when he heard she reckon his lot were 9 months late closing our borders!

We were not qualified to make our own risk judgements when this started. We knew fuk all about the virus in reality. We still aren't and we are infinitely better informed about Covid. That's an awful position.

Can you accept that zero Covid was, in hindsight, the best option for saving lives and the economy?

Or are you gonna duck that question like a Tory talking to knob head Piers?

This week has been an increased case of arse covering, I expect it to crank up

even independent sage are at it

sage getting in the lockdown till May lines in today as well - I may put back my predicted July.

Sage haven’t really been ones to stay quiet when they think something needs to be done and I don’t recall anything being mentioned by them at the time about shutting it - it was a year ago though.

Plus when it first happened millions were abroad, needed to get them home.

I see Priti Patel takes the politically expedient route of increasing fine for house parties when in reality it is making a very small contribution to case numbers. Once again though, nothing said about test, trace and isolate, which if it was effective would mean we wouldn't need damaging lock downs and kids missing school en masses.

The illusion of blaming the public

The dead cat on the table whist its poor control in hospitals and care homes - which they have started to send people back to

Well neither Bo Jo or his spokesperson denied the story so I'd guess it's pretty accurate.

I think Sage at the time genuinely underestimated how much Covid was coming in from Europe VS China and also how widespread it already was in the country, still don't get how they can say because there's loads here already a bit more won't matter. Letting citizens back with proper quarantine should have been done.

Basically bar seeing the odd poster you could get on a flight from Lombardy to Heathrow, waltz through customs and get on the tube all the way home and no one would ever know until June when the corridors were put in.

I've never seen any stats on how many fines have been issued for breaking quarantine on returning which means it's probably a very low number. If you don't have capacity to enforce it then stop it happening at source and stop people coming in or use the hundreds of thousands of hotel rooms lying vacant to help out. The cost wouldn't be much compared to test and trace.

The mental thing about all this, Airlines and Airports have been pushing for tighter restrictions and testing since March.

Companies that suffer on tighter restrictions were pushing it more than sage/gov

Barbados needed a clear pcr test on arrival and in some cases a second negative after 3 days before freedom.

A lot of people aren't capable of making good decisions regarding parenting. Should we sterilise them?

In a world where zero Covid could have worked, it would have been ideal.

In the real world it would have failed miserably and killed more businesses in the long run. That or we'd have had the army on the streets to enforce it and that's not acceptable.

When was the last time you saw someone use one of those silly QR things on the way into a building?

If you don't know where people have been, how can you trace them?

Law enforcement isn't acceptable?

Outbreaks in places like China who have had closed borders and strict lockdowns shows zero covid isn’t possible.
