Coronavirus

It is incredibly dangerous as the battle of hearts and minds in returning to normal will be lost. People cannot live in perpetual fear. And new normal is not a good concept. We need normal again and that should be the objective.

Why would the world panic?

Because a large amount of people are incapable of basic thinking?

According to some of the greatest minds in the world on minds say that simple things like the message plastered Stay Home and what the ever present vision of facemasks tells people. Its not about basic thinking its about peoples mental state based on everything.

Virus Doubles in the mirror today, well what is that double, we were at 1300 deaths at peak, what we at now? 81?

Context is most definitely key

ive come to terms there is no coming back from this

Which ever side of the fence you sit most agree we’ve got the weakest most pathetic excuse for a PM and Government (Raab and Rishi aside) in years - they have no plan and have spent billions on awful tech and failed projects.

Mate its dreadful and weak leadership.

The fact we go two steps forward and eight back without no sign of a plan or even a light at the end of the tunnel shows how bad it is.

I have got on my soap box about mental health and the total lack of regard for it from central sources, but if I was to put the question out there now after an initial hope given by the government of October 2020 when are we going to see any normality there i no answer, what does that do for peoples hope? Its a killer

He is mayor, he has a direct mandate for policing in London. Yeh cuts do not help but police presence is not the only reason behind knife crime.

End of the day, its happened on his watch and not only that his responses to such crisis is met with arrogance.

He doesn't have control of resources, budgets and numbers have been slashed. He has not single handedly caused it. That is an exagerration and an untruth in my opinion. He played a part but it is no way all on him.

For those of us in Essex :

Following extensive discussions with Leaders of other councils across the county and with Essex MPs, Essex County Council is to apply to the Secretary of State for Health to be placed into the new ‘High level’ banding of Covid-19 restrictions.

Essex continues to see an increase in cases, which the County’s Director of Public Health and Wellbeing, Dr Mike Gogarty has advised will continue to accelerate unless urgent action is taken and a move to ‘High’ from the current ‘Medium’ level is made sooner rather than later.

Essex has seen a significant increase in the number of cases, and rates in nearly all districts are now rising exponentially.

While the great majority of cases are in the younger age groups, rates are now increasing in older age groups as well, who are at higher risk of serious consequences. Hospital admissions are rising, and deaths are also now being reported. Without action now, Council expects to see substantially increase pressure on hospitals which will impact still further on those suffering from other serious conditions such as cancer.

Under High level restrictions, people must not meet with anybody outside their household or support bubble in any indoor setting, whether at home or in a public place. They must not meet in a group of more than 6 outside, including in a garden or other space.

Should ‘High level’ restrictions fail to work, areas would be placed into ‘Very High’, the highest level of restrictions.

Leader of Essex County Council, Cllr David Finch, who also Chairs the Essex Covid-19 Engagement Board, said:

“By acting now, we can hope to stem this increase, limiting the time that we are in these enhanced restrictions and – above all – avoiding further escalation into ‘Very High’. All of this will limit the damage to the economy; a healthy economy is critical to everyone having better lives in future.

“We already have one of the best track and trace operations in the country, but we will also be aiming to push its performance still higher alongside strengthening enforcement capacity and visibility. Making these painful decisions now will, we hope, bring dividends later.”

Cllr John Spence, ECC’s Cabinet Member for Adults and Health, added: “We need both to look ahead and across the whole system.

“The advice from our Director of Public Health is compelling – that without action now, we can expect to see continuing doubling of rates week after week, and these increases will be followed by on-going growth in hospital admissions and, most horribly of all, deaths. It is critical that we enable the hospitals and the NHS as a whole not just to cope with Covid, but to avoid yet further backlogs in other aspects of critical care.”

Dr Mike Gogarty, Essex’s Director of Public Health and Wellbeing, said: “Across the county we have moved from gradual to exponential growth with number of cases rising exponentially.

“We want act now to minimise the impact on the public health and the economy and by doing so we believe we can shorten the period of enhanced restrictions.”

The request, which will go to the Secretary of State today (Tuesday 13 October), has the support of leaders from across the County Council’s area, along with the County’s MPs and Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner.

He does, he recently raised council tax to come up with an increase in budget to put in an extra 230m. So he does have more control on the force than you are making out. He is incharge of a multi billion pound budget....maybe he should have cut his extra staff that came at a cost of an extra 22m or maybe come up with a policy for dealing with knives rather than spend 400,000 for a beach party in Newham?

At the end of the day the policing/crime numbers come under his watch and crime figures have rocketed, his response to things with quips such as part of living in a big city is not one of leadership in my opinion.

The blokes a fat failure, was given a whopping budget for social housing that he has failed to build and TFL is skint

eek, so many people around without masks

eek, so many people around without masks

Just been having a look at the numbers across the different council areas and there's quite a range
(Up to 9 October, positive cases per 100k, from BBC website)
Basildon 60
Braintree 38
Brentwood 68
Castle Point 54
Chelmsford 57
Colchester 49
Epping Forest 71
Harlow 44
Maldon 45
Rochford 40
Tendring 81
Uttlesford 67

Numbers don't seem that high but I suppose it's the rate of increase as much as the numbers.

Around here most people I see are wearing masks.
From comments I've seen over the past couple of weeks it seems there's no obvious cause or cluster behind the higher areas, the feeling/guess is that it's down to commuting (where I have heard from people who are back commuting that mask-wearing is pretty lax).

I've been getting the train into London from Brentwood once a week, mask wearing has been good in my experience there, but on the high street and in shops around Kelvedon Hatch and Ongar it's a poor show.

I’m not an anti masking - that’s important to say before this.

but shouldn’t someone look at the point of masks

if you just looked at the data cases started up again once mask mandates had been brought in - with other areas in the world with out then staying level/not in Increasing as much

they are not talking about mask wearing out doors - seems to be the way of just doubling down.

What about South Korea or other Asian countries? They're a shining advert for handling this well, wearing masks whenever possible and using basic common sense approaches.

We don't see the value in masks because of our culture, it's much more commonplace in many Asian societies who have dealt with the brunt of similar pandemics before.

Looking like Essex have asked to go to a higher tier (2)
Utterly ridiculous as the stats on their own website show that cases are going down now
It's clearly done as they will receive funding from the Govt if they do it which they can waste on failed traffic schemes and gonads pieces of arts
There is no way we're not going to go see our parents, it can go fudge itself this time

What kinds of pricks would choose to do more damage to their own region like that?

fudging halfwits.

The councillors have done pretty much next to nothing for Essex the past 7 months whilst sitting on their arses earning full pay
If there wasn't financial incentives for moving up a tier it wouldn't be happening
It's utter fudging gonads

1,000 cases in Essex but there are 1.4 million living here
So that means 0.7 percent of people have it
Lets just wreck people's lives and the economy for decades for that

What does Tier 2 actually do though? Based on the BBC summary, it changes very little apart from saying "don't go to other people's homes"?

Yeh, that'll stop COVID.

Councils and local governments are fcuking stupid.

Essex council leader on BBC News now, saying infections are doubling week on week and if they impose restrictions now, it will bring infections down, restrictions will be needed for a shorter period of time and will therefore be better for jobs longer term, rather than wait for numbers to get really high then have to go into restrictive measures for a longer period.
Not saying it's the right approach, but that's the logic they are employing.

In practice we're all going to be in and out of restrictions of one kind or another for the next 6 months at least.

All the stats seem to be totally flawed, are there any that aren't
They just make them up to suit their end goal
