All i've found is:

“In France, President Macron introduced compulsory masking in busy outdoor spaces of Paris in response to an increase in cases.

“Strong and precise measures like these, in combination with utilising every tool at our disposal are key to preventing any resurgence in disease and allowing societies to be reopened safely."

Not quite the same as saying we are the example to follow, he simply stated we put areas into Lockdown again? Unless there's an entirely different quote floating around from WHO maybe I missed it?

Yep like the Cubans going to America in the 70s the will be an undesirable element that people wont like to discuss.

If we were not such a weak country and worried about being called racist then we would probably do a review into the amount of crime in London caused by foreign gangs..

Can someone explain to me how the UK is managing to keep cases from sky rocketing with this half arsed strategy? Melbourne eased of the restrictions about a month ago and cases went from double digits to 700 a day. Death rate lags behind but thats also risen now. Government implements a stricter lockdown and only now are we seeing the cases fall by about 50 a day. Meanwhile UK is basking in beer gardens, beaches etc. It makes no sense to me. Whatever the rules are, we all know many don't follow them unless they are completely authoritarian. Until we figure out this virus a lot better i don't know how it can be beaten. Just keeping numbers low isn’t sustainable.

Mainly because it's not nearly as bad as all the panic-mongers would have you believe.

I think its more to do with weather. Unfortunately Covid seems to thrive in the cold. Look at the numbers in Meat packing plants.
 
I also saw a news report from Arizona (I think) that suggested cases were very high there in near-record high temperatures.

That said, I still expect to see numbers rise in the winter. We might just get the downside of seasonality, without the upside in this case.
 
I guess there is also the potential indirect impact of winter, with colder weather meaning people spend more time indoors, socialising in more confined spaces etc, which seems to make the spread more likely. So not the weather/temperature itself, but changes in behaviour due to the weather/temperature.

Cases in the UK are increasing, and are higher than in Australia - see below, from Financial Times. And in fact the last 20 days of the two trajectories look almost identical (ignoring Australia's recent downturn).

Australia want to eradicate the virus. The UK wants to suppress it. Therefore under 1,000 new infections per day in the UK is seen as success; there is a different view in Australia.

Interesting graphs, thanks for posting. U.K. is about 60m whereas Melbourne (99% of the problem here) is 5m. It seems so contagious and spreads like wildfire in crowded social situations which is basically how i recall English summers. Let alone the fact inter european tourism is open for business. Partially.

NZ just found four cases after a hundred days of ‘eradication’ and are going into immediate level 3 lockdown for three days.

I don’t know if it can be suppressed with such a high infection rate.
