Coronavirus

What is Scotland general suicide rate? Genuine question as in my bias mind was think it’s pretty high so a lot more than usual must be a hike

Yes it is highest in UK I think, and by quite a bit.
Would need to double check but if I remember correctly it's over 15 per 100k.

ATM it could be heading for as many as 18 per 100k.
Just a guesstimate, going on what I'm hearing and it may drop back to "normal' levels. Will depend on how long lock down drags on.

i see we're now ditching NHSX tracing app in favour of Google/Apple.

Let's all congratulate the government on yet another U-Turn and ignore the fact they got yet another thing wrong on handling COVID. FYI, Germany went live this week on their app.

Choosing to use that app was a terrible idea.

Only marginally worse than using any of the others, mind.

Yes it seems strange we spent lots of money on the NHSX app for nothing to be produced...

interesting to see that Faculty, one of the organisations behind the NHSX app, is headed by Marc Warner, and his brother Ben Warner is currently an 'advisor' to the governments special advisor Dominic Cummings.

All in this together. Literally.

Nearly 100 workers at two food processing plants which supply to Tesco and other supermarkets have tested positive for coronavirus.

Public Health Wales confirmed 58 cases at 2 Sisters chicken factory in Llangefni on Anglesey, with more than 200 people said to be self-isolating.

In Wrexham, 38 staff have tested positive at Rowan Foods, which makes food for supermarkets across the UK.

Health Minister Vaughan Gething said the outbreak was a "concern".

He said it "reiterates the importance of social distancing and hand hygiene".

Other countries have also recorded outbreaks in meat processing plants, including in iFrance and the US, where workers in at least two food factories have died amid outbreaks.

2 Sisters, which has contracts with KFC, Tesco and Marks & Spencer has suspended production and closed following the outbreak.

As of Wednesday, union officials said they were aware more than a third of the 560-strong workforce at the Anglesey chicken processing plant were self-isolating.

The company had introduced thermal temperature checks and employed marshalls to ensure social distancing was maintained.

Meanwhile Rowan Foods, which employs 1,500 people, said 38 staff were "absent due to testing positive for Covid-19".

The company, owned by Oscar Meyer Quality Foods, makes prepared foods for companies across the UK, including Aldi, Asda, Sainsbury's and Tesco.

In a statement, it said none of the staff were "seriously ill or had been hospitalised" and contact tracing was taking place.

I reckon we were lining up a monster tax raid on apple and google which they‘ll have managed to stave off by agreeing to let the uk use their tracing app.

I know in that brilliant essay posted on here sometime ago about transmission, that meat processing plants were a hothouse for covid infections, as to why, I have no idea.

I like how they keep the :

“none of the staff were "seriously ill or had been hospitalised" and contact tracing was taking place“

Down the bottom, got to keep the fear porn going

This is from the BBC site:

The government now intends to launch an app in the autumn, however it says the product may not involve contact tracing at that point.

Instead the software may be limited to enabling users to report their symptoms and order a test.

So we might get an app that will enable you to report symptoms and order a test....Wtf...how can it take until the autumn to develop something with such basic functionality?

Wtf...how can it take until the autumn to develop something with such basic functionality?

I just can't believe people think this government is any good. Compare this to when Cameron was in charge. Absolute brick show. So many U-Turns, back tracks etc. The incompetence is staggering.
