Champions League 24/25

UEFA Champions League knockout phase play-offs draw explainer

The draw for the UEFA Champions League knockout phase play-offs is scheduled to take place on Friday 31st January 2025.

The clubs finishing in ninth to 16th place in the league phase will be seeded, with the teams ranked 17th to 24th unseeded.

The seeded teams will be split into pairs and either be drawn into the silver or blue half of the draw, with the same process happening for the pairs of unseeded teams.

For example, the seeded teams ranked 9th and 10th in the league phase will be paired together, with one drawn into the silver half of the draw and the other allocated to the blue half.

This process will leave the following possible match-ups in the UEFA Champions League knockout phase play-offs draw:

Silver bracket

  • Team in 17th/18th v Team in 15th/16th
  • Team in 23rd/24th v Team in 9th/10th
  • Team in 21st/22nd v Team in 11th/12th
  • Team in 19th/20th v Team in 13th/14th
Blue bracket

  • Team in 22nd/21st v Team in 12th/11th
  • Team in 24th/23rd v Team in 10th/9th

The first-legs of the play-offs will take place on 11th or 12th February, with the return legs set for the following week on 18th or 19th February.

How do the play offs work ?
1 leg or home and away ?
Drawn out or done on position ??
Two legs. It's drawn. Teams finishing 9th to 16th are seeded and will be drawn against those finishing 17th-24th. Seeded teams play away first and get the 2nd leg at home.

Watching Barca - Atalanta, and I so want us to sign Ederson! Incredible passing range and very good at sniffing out danger. Drops down between the CB's when needed, and joins the attack when he can. Scored a screamer too. He's exactly what we need in midfield!
