So that wasn't onside because the Liverpool players didn't mean to deflect it to him, even though Valverde didn't look like he was trying to pass to him either?

I can't understand that being offside.There was a defender then obviously the keeper in front of the Madrid player when he received the ball and shot!?
 
So that's 4 hrs 45mins in 3 finals so far this season and they still havent scored a goal, but yet still have 2 trophies to their name. This is starting to look like it could go the same way

In theory, yes.

But in reality at least two of the three made a conscious attempt the play the ball
