And we're almost underway again ...

The draw for the preliminary round of the 2018/19 Champions League will take place on Tuesday 12 June. The 4 teams involved are FC Santa Coloma (And), Lincoln FC (Gib), SP La Fiorita (Sma) and KF Drita (Kos). The preliminary round will consist of single-legged matches to be played in Gibraltar. The preliminary round semi-finals will be held on 26 June and the final on 29 June. The winner will progress to the First Qualifying Round of the Champions League. The three eliminated teams will transfer to the Europa League Second Qualifying Round.

Meanwhile UEFA has announced estimated revenue of €1.95bn for the 2018/19 Champions League (up from €1.26bn last season) and details of how it will be shared between the competing clubs. https://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsleague/news/newsid=2562033.html

All teams in the group stage will receive a starting fee of €15.25m. Teams will also now receive an amount related to their 10 year performance-based coefficient ranking. For the English teams I estimate this to be: Man Utd €31.0m, Emirates Marketing Project €24.4m, Liverpool €23.2m and Spurs €15.5m. Additional payments depending on results will come from performance bonuses and the market pool.

And here are the group stage pots assuming that the seeded teams win through the qualifying rounds.

Normally, first thing I look for when seeing the seedings is what would represent a group of death for us. I'm not seeing one at the moment, but need to see how transfers play out. Other ideas, though:

Group of apathy: drawn with Lokomotiv Moscow, Ludogoret Razgrad, Club Brugge.

This evening's elimination of Celtic and Astana opens the door for Young Boys and AEK Athens if they can beat their lower ranked opponents in the play-off round.

The previous defeat of Basel by PAOK in the 2nd qualifying round increased Liverpool's chances of getting into Pot 2 - but they would still need Benfica, also drawn against PAOK, to be knocked out in the play-off round.
