Our View: Brady's 2015 comments on Tottenham now make West Ham a laughing stock
West Ham are in dire straits at the moment.
The Hammers are currently sitting in 17th spot in the Premier League table, just one point clear of the drop zone.
They have just sacked Manuel Pellegrini and replaced the Chilean with David Moyes.
And West Ham fans are not happy.
The Hammers’ current situation is a far cry from what they were promised when they moved to the London Stadium three-and-a-half years ago.
The east London club’s move to the 60,000 seater London Stadium was supposed to coincide with a new era of success.
But as thing’s stand, they have actually gone backwards.
West Ham’s vice-chairman Karren Brady was one of the main cheerleaders when the Hammers moved to their new home.
In 2015, just six months before the east Londoners made their move to the London Stadium,
Brady wrote in her column for the Sun how they would now have ‘bragging rights’ over Tottenham:
“Many Hammers fans regard Spurs as their rival and as they waged a campaign to wrest the Olympic Stadium rights from us, I didn’t regard them as friends. Boris Johnson said we have been an integral part of delivering a massive social and economic legacy from the Olympic and Paralympic Games in east London. Of course we want to beat Spurs tomorrow, but the London Mayor’s praise is worthier bragging rights.”
Ill-advised comments now make Hammers a laughing stock
Quite frankly, those comments are absolutely embarrassing. And they make West Ham a laughing stock amongst not only Tottenham fans, but the rest of the league.
Spurs have really kicked on over the past three or four years, whilst the Hammers continue to flounder.
The Lilywhites also have a magnificent new stadium of their own now – one that West Ham fans are surely envious of.
Most Hammers fans miss the days of Upton Park. The London Stadium does not feel like home at all. It’s soulless and lacks any kind of atmosphere or identity.
There surely won’t be any Tottenham fans who are jealous of West Ham’s current situation.
