Here's hoping their game against Villa just got easier - Watkins out injured after 32 mins. Hurt his knee trying to maim the Ajax keeper. Had it heavily wrapped, carried on long enough to head home from a corner and now, wincing as he heads straight down the tunnel.

They should make the losing side give up their gawdawful claret and blue kits until they beat the other side. Eyesore outfits.

No such luck re Watkins. Apparently it’s a cut and is in contention for Sunday. Swear Villa and Arsenal have been the luckiest teams in the top half when it comes to injuries.

The Goons definitely...the Villa not so much...they've had some long term injuries, three ACLs to main players to start with. Konsa and Ramsay have been regularly out as well.

It's a blindingly obvious one but we can't control / affect what West Ham do in games we're not involved in. The whole "they never do us any favours" cliche didn't hold up for the Freiburg game when it was almost written in stone that it would. "They only try against us" is another one which might help some folk sleep at night but isn't necessarily accurate either, given their record of 3 consecutive quarter final appearances at least in Europe three seasons running. They are often dogbrick in the league though, that is undisputable.

What will hold up is our frankly dismal record against them if we don't pull our finger out. However dismissive / salty people want to be about them doesn't change the run of results we've had, it's turned in to an us / City thing with the supposed lesser club having the other club's number. Football isn't as simple as trying really really hard guarantees a win, them lot raising their game isn't an excuse for us getting done in.

N.b I'm not pinning everything that's been said re West Ham on you but just continuing on the theme of them doing us or not doing us favours, so this isn't me calling you out for things you haven't even necessarily said!

They should beat Luton on May 11 but then close out at ManCity final weekend May 19.

Sitting in 7th, they have no relegation fears. The classic scenario of a club 'on the beach'. And all we can eke out is a 1-1 draw. Shameful.

Paqueta said he was "extremely surprised and upset" by the charges, and denies them.

2022 and 2023 - I mean, how much work is it to investigate something like that? This isn't a case involving Mexican drug cartels or complex money laundering, just one footballer getting booked for cash. Surely a month or two should be sufficient.

It's pretty serious, directly affecting the game. What if that yellow was upgraded to a red, or he was subbed off due to the booking and the sub affected the match etc.

The clips make it look really blatant in retrospect.

Bigger question is why bother doing it, he's got to be on 100K a week minimum, probably 150K. Just pure greed.

Definitely serious, but at first glance not a very complex case to investigate. The timing just seems suspicious, straight after the end to the season.

Agreed about doing it - it's just stupid for someone already on massive wages, at least compared to most ordinary people.

Will the punishment be reduced if Paqueta is confirmed as being addicted to getting booked for cash?

What if he's just addicted to breaking clearly set about rules / bringing the game in to disrepute? If anything, he is the victim here. Lenient sentencing isn't enough, he should be rewarded for shining light on the taboo subject and bringing it in to the public domain. Always got to consider the human angle!
